yeah, it doesn't take much throttle to spin the tires.  just tapping it mid turn makes it swing like that.  it is going to take some time before i get comfortable enough with the handling before i start doing some serious hooning.  maybe in a big empty parking lot.  it loses traction at will, but regains it almost as quickly when you let off the throttle.  i need to learn the finer points of feathering the throttle.  it has been more than 5 years since i've driven this car (or any other manual for that matter) and it was fwd with considerably less power.  i don't know if i'll ever get the wg to open at 8 pounds...  if i do it wouldn't be for very long.

So how does it feel to have so much work into something you dont want to drive it in case someone crashes into you?  Haha.  I have that feeling all the time.

this car went into a ditch in july.  i'm not concerned at all, it is just a car.  I built this car to beat on it on the regular.  it isn't a trailer queen and it isn't strictly a weekend toy.  it is a any day of the week go to work or pick up the kids from school kinda car.  if it gets ruined by someone else smashing into it, as long as I can walk away i'm ok with that.  the work I put into it was about the process more than the end result... there never is an end result.  it constantly evolves and changes, just the same way you constantly learn and develop new skills.  the process is the key.  if you reach an end result you have missed the point imo.  i'm currently making changes and hope to have it out in late may.

yeah, there just wasn't really room for anything else.  really, I should have added a flex further up stream as well. :/  I can always add that after the fact though.

How do you like the RS3 tires?

Did the ditch fuck the car up?  Its ok I assume?

I dont think I've ever completed one build either.  Haha.  Good way to sum it up. Glad you arent afraid to drive it, I respect that a lot.

the rs3's are fantastic value.  you aren't going to get a better tire for that little money.

as a result of the ditch excursion:
1. all 4 rear subframe bushings were destroyed (now replaced with prothane bushings)
2. fuel tank was dinged up and had come disconnected at the fill neck tube- I scrapped it and am building a new one to be placed in front of the rear end.
3. the only cosmetic damage was the drivers side rear quarter has a dent and the tail light was damaged.  i'm in the process of fixing it and I plan to flare the fenders a bit as well to spread the rear tires a bit.
4. the exhaust has some minor dents, but I will be building a new one without a cat or a resonator.

So did the ass end come out and place itself int the ditch? That was the only problem I ever had with my crx is it felt like the wheelbase was a few inches shorter than it should have been. But I'm glad to hear that the car wasn't destroyed.

here is the modified slave to make it fit.  I made the mistake of making the tunnel without it installed on the transmission, so I had to move access to the bleed fitting.

installed:

in the sunshine:

ok, here is the rear suspension version 2.0.  it has since been modified to 3.0 because the rocker angle on this was incorrect and did not allow the strut proper compression.  i'm glad I decided to make this bolt in so modification is not too difficult.

you can see here where the rocker connects to the strut assembly that it is too far over the mount point on the cross bar.  it was modified to sit behind it so compression begins on the outside of the cross bar mount point and finishes on the inside.

this was after the alignment was done.  only .02" of bumpsteer!

UKDM rear seat that I picked up off ebay for a good price.  it was in excellent condition with no tears or scratches.  the kids can go for rides too!

rear suspension clears the interior hatch cover for a stealth look when parked on the street:

next up I added a meziere electric water pump.  might as well make a cover for the factory pump and get rid of the pulley to clean things up:

but again, I didn't leave it like this either, I ended up going for a cleaner look by ditching the factory tensioner and idler pulleys and just making the belt shorter:

so I got thinking and realized I don't actually even need the water pump housing at all.  it is just a big heavy casting I can get rid of (along with the block off plate I had made, so I went to water pump mod 3.0 by removing the housing and cnc machining up a simple thermostat housing that bolts directly to the block:

I love cnc billet.  it seems to have much more meaning when you draw it up, set it up, program and machine it yourself.

finished with a 1/16" endmill:

what waterpump?

fresh after a wash:

so, much has happened in the past few months.  had the opportunity to do some testing last night at a local track.  the car really needs a better tune.  it does not appear to be tuned for midrange driving.  balance throttle through turns is a challenge with it being so twitchy.  anyway, it handles much better than i was expecting.  i didn't push it too hard the first time out.  my goal was to not wreck it and to get comfortable with the brakes and coming out of turns.  it works well and i look forward to pushing it to the edge of its limits in the future.
