So where do I set up my wideband for freelog?
« on: February 16, 2010, 01:54:02 AM »

I want to log my afrs, and i need to know which pin i need to tap into t5o lg. No Ive heard d14, and d12, but I dont know how to set it up in freelog for d12. So im thinking of going with d14 and setting the scales to only see up to 17.what ever the fuck it is, but ive never messed with it.

Just go for the stock o2 sensor location, ground your wideband at the thermostat housing.

Like you said, you won't see over 17 afrs but you probably won't ever need to.

I dont understand why people make a fuss about not being able to see over 17:1 afr.

D14 is the stock o2 signal input. Splice into it, remove j12, disable o2, add rtp to the rom and just set freelog to read whatever your wideband reads.

Do with these links as you want.

Most cars won't even cruise at that AFR, the majority of the rest won't cruise well at 17:1.  I've run acros a few that would do a little leaner, but they are an oddity.  All part throttle shit,  17:1 past -10 in/Hg is stupid.

Because on some widebands 3.8v was something like 15's AFR.  I believe it was the shitty NGK wideband.

I know someone will disagree with me on this, but for datalogging, I would set things up so your logging through a com port & through the ECU.  With my PLX, under boost conditions, I always like to read right off the gauge.  I never fully trusted the ECU to read 100% accurate.  I know there are ways to hook up the wideband to read properly with the ECU, I just always found it easier to have the wideband display confirm under boost.

I've been using a PLX M-250 (M-300 with no display) for years.  If you stop paying primary attention to the wideband and pay more attention to what the engine is doing you'll be better off.

I don't have Joseph Davis skills so I rely on proper feedback to some degree from my engine sensors, primarily my wideband.  When we are talking about basic street tunes, getting AFR to your "familiar place" and dialing ignition timing in the realm for where it should be is all that you are looking for IMO.  Maybe the grand master can do better, but I cannot.

I always wondered what my EGT was when i did that once lol.

AFRs on the street mean less than they do on the dyno.

You develop Joseph Davis skills by trying, not making excuses for why you don't try.

17:1???

Gay...

Depending on load, my car is at about 14.5 to 1 at freeway cruise (with the straightcuts' ratios its alot different than OEM gearing, and actually changes the tuning alot). However my POS sure as hell doesn't like to be much leaner than that with virtually no load on it or it will lean pop.  AT Idle 12.8-13.00 at 1K is where it likes to be.... in the middle, fuel values are all over the place to make it happy... Simply scaling them or interpolating them is not an option to get the car to behave.

If I just shot for an AF range (Out of boost, and especially asd high as 98VTAK is talking about), my car would run like shiiiiiit.  I agree, the WB is a tool t9 be used for reference as to where you are...... The motor will let you know if what you read is where you want to be or not....

Sounds like an injector/driver issue. What injectors are you running? I've noticed I get better gas mileage(also leaner idle afr) with certain injectors by raising the base fuel pressure.

He has a crappier set of Precision 1000's, and/or a ground offset issue.

As fas as I know freelog never logged afr correctly anyway. I pmed back and forth with Itdannear or whatever his username is on pgmfi is a few years back and it's a problem in freelog it'self that screws up the logged and populated value's Ive got it close but never perfect.  It is close enough to use as a refferance though. like you can tell one spot is leaner or richer then the the other but the actual number isn't right. Just go through your tables like that smoothing out and checking the wideband guage itself from time to time and you can do some good work with freelog the program has some cool stuff in it that to be honest I miss and like more the cromes datalogging.
Like joseph and others  have said widebands are only a rough idea anyway use them but don't completely beleive everything they say. definatly take what a bosch sensor reads with a grain of salt.

Thanks guys. Now im gona hook up the wb to d14. Havent realy fucked with it to much. I was hoping i could get it for once in my life to log the same numbers as my wb readout is. Oh well. I havent even hooked it up and set anything yet, but i hope i can adjust freelog to get close to what my m300 reads.

good luck with that, especially on D14.

I got 45mpg on the interstate that one time, but didnt want to run it that lean all the time during cruise.

add timing in cruise and you can run it leaner before it misfires.

Yup precisions... Something I noticed is now that i moved the WB back to just behind the firewall, it reads about 13:1. (WB used to be about 18" out the ex housing)  It idles at a solid 13:1, as I mentioned ive spent some time on it, but if I try to go too much leaner it will pop. Mitch is claiming that Irridums helped the Lude idle leaner successfully (he went from 13 to 13.6ish), Im using NGK non resistor 8s... At 4-5 times more (For the IDX)im willing to deal with it. My car idles PERFECTLY... RPM fluctuates no more than 50ish RPMS from target.

My cars drivability is flawless, just likes to idle a bit rich. I can deal with that...   Base is at around 55 PSI with the car running... WIll be jacked to 65 for the NW dyno day so we can turn up the 4 BAR and see what we get (Yes this year my car will be on the dyno)... Figure that and 35 PSI....

I've always logged through d14 on Crome and it reads either dead on with my wb or just barely off. Not enough for me to care.
