i have used a few different dynasty's... and they are not really to my liking... a lil too complicated for everyday welding...

If you don't know how to weld I could see it being a problem, otherwise, what you are saying does not make any sense. The dynastys are the least complex welding machines I own.

LOL, Dave that isn't saying much... But I do agree, my Dynasty is super straight forward.

True, but I mean you can run a dynasty in dc without any additional arc shaping, it'll still weld smoother than most machines.

*start threadjack*
BTW I have been meaning to call you for a couple weeks, that 24v head you gave me, is the generation with shitty valve seats. They aren't an actual seat ring, but rather machined into the head, and they like to crack. We can work with this one, but for the amount of abuse you guys will put it through we'd have to come up with a new seat arrangement. I know I'm shitty for not having told you this sooner, I kinda forgot with the move going on.
*end threadjack*

cut the old ones out and hammer new valve seats in, problem solved.

There aren't any old ones in there, the seat is a machined feature of the casting, not a separate ring like on aluminum heads. The cracks run pretty deep on this head, likely not worth salvaging. We could machine some counterbores to accept custom seats, but its a lot of time and money.

I won't pretend I know what I'm talking about, because I don't. I'm unfamiliar with the 24v cummins. However, my machinist friend was just over here a couple hours ago and he drives a 24v cummins. We got on the subject of the valve seats and he said that the seats are a nickel material that heats at a different rate than the surrounding casting, prolonged heat (as in towing heavy loads for a long period of time) causes the seats to crack or even drop. He said, he replaces seats almost daily. They cut the old ones out and replace it with a tungsten seat that handles the stress better.

Your friend is right, there are a lot of 24v heads that do that, but the earliest of the 24v heads didn't have separate valve seats, and they were just a machined feature of the casting, these ones crack in the seat area, and in fact Cummins actually has a spec as to how large the cracks can be before the head is junk. I don't think there were a lot of the early heads without seat rings, but I do come across them every now and then.

1991.5 - current for auto trans, 2003+ for manual trans. The 727 in the 1989-1991 were not great, but were not bad either.

caveat about the 2003+ manual trans, they work fine below about 550rwhp, after that they like to strip gears, and just generally fail.

NV4500's did have that problem, but the fix is like $30, and a few hrs to pull the tail shaft of the trans. The trans still works fine even when it does loose 5th, my buddy mat has been driving his 97 around for the last couple months as a 4 speed as he is too lazy to fix it. I would still rather have the NV4500 then the G56, as an NV4500 with the upgraded input shaft will hold over 1000rwhp. It is the best trans dodge ever offered bar none.

Order of Dodge transmissions found behind cummins transmissions as I see it:

NV4500>NV5600>G360>G56>727>All other autos. I haven't had any experience with the new 6 speed auto, but given the track record, I predict fail.

This is based on stock transmissions if we are talking built transmissions, then it is a whole other ball game.

The ultimate thread jack, i like it.

So my 48re is pretty much junk i take it.
And with the tach, its working great so far and has 115k on the body. But i will agree, the seats suck.
My truck is all manual electronics inside, i would love to do auto window and doorlock conversion that would be nice. I do like how even though some trucks didn't come with fog lights (mine) it is still prewired.

Another thing i found with the 06's is that the recirc. door like to break and drop into your blower motor, causing it to become un balanced and vibrate, i dropped mine two days ago and puilled out the door and the broken piece, can't switch between fresh or cabin, just sucks from both, but atleast there is airflow again.

My A/C doesn't work rite now, the compressor clutch won't engage, and it has refer. in it.
Also the #4 injector blue clip that holds it in place was loose, good thing i found it before it did damage. I read that they come loose and rub a pinhole in the injector line, so im happy i found it before it did any damage.

Also the coolant overflow tank didn't come with a hose clamp where the line plugs in under the radiator cap, causing it to leak a little coolant, then i read about it and looked and sure enough no clamp. Apparently a lot of 06's came from the factory with no clamp.

Just a few little tid bits ive learned about the 06.

Cliffs:
I don't know shit dont read my post.

48re is junk stock, once built will hold some serious power. Some 06 tach's are garbage, and some where okay. Sounds like you probably got a good one. Tmathis (06 on 22.5's pictured in another thread) has a garbage tach, and it just jumps around randomly all over.

I am sure I have read a fix for the recirc door, but for the life of me can't dig it up right now, when I do I will post it up.

AC might be the clutch, or might be the pressure switch. I would hot wire the clutch and see if it engages, then you will at least know if it is the clutch or the switch, or some other possible problem.

Didn't know about the clips, good info.

Didn't know about the clamp either.

apparently you can order just the door from dodge, they switched to a new plastic so it won't break on the door, so i just have to order one and drop the blower then put it back up in there again.
