Most of the time when i plug my laptop into my tv via the hdmi input, it doesn't do anything except say no signal. I can't figure out why. Its about a 2 year old Gateway M-1617. Also, my wireless router just decided to quit every now and then. I have to go shut off the power and start it again and it works. Its a belkin Wireless-n router. Any body got any suggestions?

the laptop you are going to have to hit like control/function F7 or something like that.  It should tell your video card to change the output.  look for the button that has something like two monitors separated by a /

Yeah, you have to send a signal through HDMI....  Usually, whoever manufactures your video card will have a utility to set up the second display, and you can usually mirror your screen through both the monitor and HDMI output, but it really depends on what video card you have.

As far as the router...do you torrent?  A lot of routers, stock, don't handle all the open connections too well and eventually "run out" and go to shit.  My sister's 2wire or whatever does that, my linksys router did that (before DD-WRT), and I wouldn't be surprised if your Belkin did (although I've never used one).  See if you can install dd-wrt or tomato on it.

You need to get your xbox's ip address (you get it from the xbox).  It's better to set up static IP addresses as it's annoying when your xbox's IP address changes and you have to change all your router's port forwards

I'd explain it but really I'm lazy right now.

Had somewhat of a similar issue w/ a belkin N1. Now run ethernet cable from my wireless router to the xbox... no more prob.

Ah Yeah i found the button. Its f4 on my computer. So just hit control and f4 and it should work? And i do have utorrent, but i haven't used it since i moved here, so i doubt that is my problem. Its just during regular internet useage when it goes out and i have to reset it. And its brand new, maybe 1 month old now. I got it running the internet to my computer and i have a cat5 cable coming out of the wireless router to my xbox. Would it work better if i had the cat5 cable coming out of the regular router instead of the wireless?

Can i just replace the router time warner gave me with the belkin one? right now i have the wireless one hooked up to the and everything else running off the wireless router.

Don't worry, that mistake was expected of 90% of the customers when I worked at Comcast.

I'd just look for a Linksys router at a yard sale or craigslist or something.  They last, and work properly.  Don't know what's up with your Belkin as I've never touched a Belkin router.

I'd try hooking something up directly to the modem (you'll need to restart it when you switch devices), and see if it goes out.

I'd just look for a Linksys router at a yard sale or craigslist or something.  They last, and work properly.  Don't know what's up with your Belkin as I've never touched a Belkin router.

Well the only thing that has a line running to the router is my 360, and that never cuts out, Just my laptop running wirless. I think i have a linksys router laying around somewhere, but its missing an antenna and i don't have the disk to install and set it up.

Does it possibly go out when the microwave starts?

Could be something with your laptop too...have another wireless device that you could try for a while?

No it works fine when the microwave comes on. getting pretty annoyed with it now.

Some routers just suck.  I bought a Linksys WRT54G2.  I figured it should be as good as the old versions because Linksys knew it had a winner.  Well, I was dead wrong.  Any time I tried to do a file transfer from one computer to another wirelessly, the damn router would crash.  I don't know if it was because it had a shitty version of DDWRT, but the router definitely sucks.  I replaced it with an old school WRT54 and it works great.  I didn't install DDWRT on it though.  I use the G2 for my Xbox which works pretty well.

They're downright terrible. Only good point is they have a lifetime warranty, supposedly. I had one a few years ago that I had sent for a few replacements because it would die, I eventually just gave it to my sister and got a wrt54g w/ dd-wrt on it and it works fine. also my belkin wireless adapter is dieing too, i think their products just suck

I know Belkin is a low-end brand... Wouldn't surprise me if they're junk but, never dealt with em.

Find someone with a spare you can borrow.  My guess is the router just sucks.

Yah I didn't even catch that.  They sometimes help noobs, but usually just end up loading more garbage software that isn't needed onto your PC.

Hook up the router, go to 192.168.1.1 in your browser (hard-wired), reset to defaults, then set up your wireless security and you're good to go.

If you are buying a new router I say stay away from the Linksys WRT160N (?) it is there antennaless black saucer thing.

I moved to a D-Link extreme and never looked back. It runs two XBOX live accounts on one network flawlessly without any forwarding set up, that is a pretty tall task.
