eCtune force update issues
« on: March 14, 2010, 01:09:38 PM »

Anyone else have issues with force update? The other day I got an "Old Version" error and it told me to run force update, but when I do the status bar just sits there and finally errors and tells me that it is "Unable to connect to remote server"

I emailed Calvin, he asked me a bunch of questions and finally told me that it was a firewall or something blocking it. Well, my firewall is turned off, as well as my antivirus and it still won't connect. I kind of got the "I'll worry about it later" response from Calvin, which kind of irked me off because now I can't even use the software...which we all know isn't free.

Is there anything else that I should look for that could possibly be blocking my from my own computer? Or is this something fucked up on eCtune's end?

Trust me, other options are crossing my mind. I just don't want to see this $175 go to complete waste.

Yes XP. Same XP install that was on the comp when I got eCtune. Force Update worked fine forever, now all of a sudden it won't.

FUCK YOU BITDEFENDER!!!!!!

Even though I had BitDefender turned off, it uses it's own firewall in place of Windows Firewall. Disabled that and sure as shit, the Force Update worked.

Motherfucker

Only reason I figured it out is because I was going to completely uninstall BD from my computer and it gave me a message asking if I wanted to turn Windows Firewall back on. Got me thinking that it probably has it's own firewall...and sure enough it did.

This happens now and then...  It normally gets fixed within a day or two.

It's on calvins end, he probably forgot a version flag when updating from the timebombed version.

Most of the time it's just trying to reupdate you to the same new version..... But in your case... This is not it.

I would personally suspect the computer;  just download the rar with another pc and copy it over, this will make it work for the mean time.... I doubt it's the ectune server unless a buttload of people reported the same issue at the same time.
