F1 piston and Rod
« on: March 14, 2010, 07:31:36 PM »

I thought it was interesting how short the stroke is, the deck on the piston and how close the valves are actually coming to the face of the piston.

The piston looks similar to a two smoke piston.

The big end of that rod looks like it took some abuse, there's some wear marks in it.

Two rings = more friction = less power?  More weight too.  It's clear that at those speeds and acceleration every gram is huge.

as apposed to the std 3 ring package?

The piston top is awesome. Goes to show that a huge dome isn't ideal.

No, I wasn't considering the oil control setup.  Just "compression."

Flat valve angle is where it's at.

I like that they use studs for the big end

I'm curious about the pin in the center of the big end.  Is that there so if you hammer a bearing it won't spin leading to a mangled crank?
