LS 5th gear swap
« on: March 30, 2010, 03:16:40 AM »

I hate cruising on the highways at 4500rpm.

What do I need to swap an LS 5th in place of my current 99-00 Si 5th, other than the gearset itself?

both gears, but might as well replace ISB and three seals while tranny is torn apart.

It's a very simple job.  But if you're going through all the effort why not put in an LSD?  You'll have already dropped the tranny, split the cases, and pulled the shafts.  You're there.  I'm pretty sure those si trannys have the more simple ball bearing "style" (i can't remember the proper name) so it'd just be a matter of buying the right shim which is easy to measure with feelers.  After all that work what's an extra $300?
