Who has some emblem adhesive?
« on: March 30, 2010, 02:39:10 PM »

So I got the ricer emblems off my car which were held on by double sided tape. Now I just have to get all the residue off. Someone told me WD-40 will work and not harm the paint, anyone ever tried this? Any other quick solutions?

Worked like a charm, now does anyone have any spare emblem adhesive laying around?

Any friggin solvent (that's not too powerful)

WD40?  Nosir.

Rubbing alcohol will work if that's the least you have.  Surely you have some.

Any kind of petroleum based lube will work. I've used wd-40 (and knock off's) to get tint crud off, sticker residue off of paint, and lots of other shit. If it's kinda sun baked on, you may have to soak it for a while. I had that shit happen with a emblem on my trunklid, and I had to keep spraying it. It came off a day later, just sprayed it down anytime I walked outside, rubbed a little, spray, rub, spray, etc...

Fortunately I found a bottle of actual paint remover in the garage, have been using that, and before I was using 90% isopropyl alcohol.  Also have used some spray meant for prepping for paint work that's supposed to remove all oils and such.

If it has a factory/ decent paint job, you can use acetone. If its a rattle can job, I wouldn't try it.

I do this on a daily basis to remove tree sap and sticker adhesive. Just give it a light coat of wax when your done.

That's a waste of time. Acetone will have it off in less than 30 seconds.

That's what my "paint prep" spray has.  Works.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no body expert, but I think that heat would make it pliable and gooey to come off, but might kinda also get the paint too hot. Why go through that hassle when WD-40 does it just as well, and quicker.

WD-40 worked out pretty well. Just kept spraying it on every little bit, about 5 coats in each spot and it came off fairly easy.

So now I just need to get some emblem adhesive for the replacement ones. Anyone have any laying around? Don't really want to buy $10 3M emblem adhesive that I only need a few drops of.

Shipping to you would cost a few bucks.

I have some JB Weld.

Can throw it in one of the free USPS envelopes for about $.75. I got a pack of chewing gum just waiting to be used, don't think I won't go ghetto on it

jb weld, or better yet, some other type of epoxy.  I just don't see jb weld sticking to plastic and/or paint very well
