Yeah, as everyone knows I'm not experienced in the engine building thing but I don't see how something softer than metal will damage metal.  I could understand maybe metal or sand causing a problem, but I don't see how dirty oil would be any less harmful than a little dust or strand of carpet.

I've built a lot of engines, and I don't buy into the whole meticulous/precision/clean room shit.  I've done a few torture tests specifically to argue (against myself) the need.  Mostly I feel like it's done for piece of mind, and since I don't really give a fuck I do it how I like.  Now if I ever did one for a "customer" that would be different, because you always need to take extra precautions to ensure nothing bad happens which could ruin your name, and I think that's where a lot of the hoopla came from regarding precautions during engine assembly.

Finally got most of all the shit I ordered today:

5-3" vibrant vanjen clamps
fuelab 75 micron filter
fuelab 10 micron filter
2 bosch 044's and relays and billet mount
id2000's
24x12x3.5 intercooler core
1.25 a/r turbine housing
m&w pro10 with harness
crane ps92 coil
web 250/250 .470/.470 cams
4" vband for "downpipe"
15x7 rota rb's
blox competition coilovers (rear drags are on backorder)

Things I still need:

mounts (coming?)
-6an plug for FPR
battery
one more 75 micron filter

I'm not going to take pics of all the shit, but you will see it as I assemble everything.  Pretty excited because if I ever decide to get off my ass, I could have the car running in a couple days.

we went down pretty early this morning, he wanted to have some mounts fabbed for his radiator and a few other things done before the tune.  He ended up making 445whp/310tq @17lbs creeping to 19 by 9k.  He's gotta fix a few things like the oil return and just generally tighten down every bolt, seems like a lot of shit came loose on the dyno, but I'll probably post a ripper vid later this week.

It seems very common no matter how much you go over shit on a fresh build, there is always shit to tighten down.

So last night I was letting my friend help me put the "extra's" on the block so I can get the head on and degree my cams, and not only did he break off one of the water pump bolts, but he also broke off the easy out.  I tried tonight to drill it out for about 2 hours and 10 bits later, I gave up.  Ended up modifying the pump a little and drilling a new hole just outside of the o-ring and I drilled a new hole in the block and tapped it and put a helicoil in it for strength.  Hopefully that shit holds, or else I'm welding that mother on.  Also had to order some more block o-ring material (18 gauge copper wire), and some oil pump bolts.  I am going slow with this and we'll say this week I'll work on getting engine in car, next week is fab week, then electrical and fuel, and tune is scheduled right now for may 1.

SHitty man, have you ever tried left hand drill bits b4? Ive tried them 3 times, and every time I tried them it pulled the broken bolt right out. And if it didnt pull it out, you have just drilled your hole to try an easy  out. Just a thought

Yes I was referencing my stereo tune...lol.  Sidenote are they letting people make passes that day?  You should bring the big slut out to PR this sunday.  I'll be there lending a hand to the SF guys watching them move up to 26's, would be cool to put some faces to names.

Motor is almost back together.  Fought the last couple days with a broken off water pump bolt and then had to find some more copper wire for the orings.  Tomorrow I'll probably put the rest of the valves back in and degree the cams.  Then it's time to put this little slut where it goes.

End gap is none, what a pain in the ass.  I can do it pretty fast now though.
