B18B VS B18A, FIGHT!!111 Sensors/black box
« on: April 10, 2010, 08:12:34 PM »

Back of the B18B only has one sensor (the 1 wire one with the "boot").  The B18A had 3, only two of which the CRX used.  The one that I need, that is missing, is a two prong one also with a boot.  The hole that it goes in on the B18A is not tapped and filled on the B18B.  What do I do with it?

Also, on the B18A there was a black box on the back of the block.  On this B18B, the hole that is open in the B18A that the box goes in is filled.

WHAT I DO?

Yeah thats the fan temp switch on the back of the B18A ( two prong ), you need the thermostat housing off the B18B with the fan switch built into the T-neck (also two prong but a different style plug ) so you have to get creative and wire it up yourself to the two wires that connect to the switch/plug/sensor on the back of the B18A.

The More You Know: The one wire sensor above the oil filter is the oil pressure sensor.  ;)

Thats the crankcase breather box on the A1, on the B1 you could probably tap the breather outlet and run a line to a catch can, thats what I would/going do, or you could find a stock B1 breather box

The breather box...can I just use the A1 box as a "catch can" by bolting it on to the back of the block?  It just has the two bungs, one for the block and the other for the intake, then has the hole that I guess is supposed to drain the oil back into the block.  Being that this hole is plugged on the B18B, would it be fine to just throw on some sort of relief valve to drain it periodically and use it? NVM, does not fit.

Why can't it just vent to air?  Would it let too much oil escape?

When I boost it I'll probably thread in a fitting on one of the larger plugged holes on the back of the block, but for now just need something cheap/simple.  I'm curious what you do with the port on the intake manifold that usually sucks the vapor from the block...if it's boosted I assume that it wouldn't be good for relieving pressure in the crank case?  Does it usually just get plugged?

I think for now I will just run a hose from the valve cover to the ground, I don't want oil in the intake :P  The line I have on the intake manifold that's supposed to go to the box, I will just run to the intake piping so it's still getting filtered air.

If you are talking about just putting a threaded plug there and running a hose to the ground you will loose all of you oil out of it when you are driving and hammer on it. Because of all the oil running to the back of the motor. So in the mean time just plug it, and use your valve cove to get the pressure out.

You will want to plug that or use it for your wg or bov.

Do that.

Dont do that because it will make a huge vaccum leak and you will idle at like 3k...lol

Did this on my ZC and tons of oil came out.  Not recommended.  The dolphins and penguins will hate you for it

Well when I was under my car yesterday, I noted to my self about that nice exhaust I have and all the oil that is all over the outside of it from my oil pan. So I pulled the pan and am going to fix that.

Yeah, I spewed 3qt of oil within 10 minutes down the street and all over my car when the vtec feed line was leaking.

I found cheap catch cans on egay, will probably just get one of those.

Thanks guys.

http://www.jazproducts.com/breather_tanks.html

Check those out.  Supposed to be around $40-45.  Looks perfect.  Vented/filtered/baffled, two inlets, a "meter", and a drain at the bottom.

Will run a line from the valve cover, cap the intake mani (for now), and once boosted tap the block and add a fitting to run a line to the other inlet for massimum breathing.
