i've tried getting a team together since i did it a couple years ago, but all my friends don't see the fun in spending a few hundred dollars and several hours on a junker to make race ready for a weekend of killer fun

How about building a tank and aiming to take out every other car on the track?

logging laps is KEY

stop for tires and fuel only.  change drivers then.  2 hours is a good bit in the seat at a time

broke car = lost laps = epic fail

How about building a tank and aiming to take out every other car on the track?

the organizers will take measures to ensure you don't last much longer once you are spotted as a 'threat'
one guy had a bunch of spikes welded to his front crossmember aimed toward his radiator.  if he butted anyone in the ass he was done for the day. its fair and it keeps it fun

i've got a good gas tank out of a 94 civic si that i'd donate for the project

the peoples curse, the car that gets crushed, has evolved into a publicity stunt.  so theres always someone who WANTS their car crushed.  when i did the race, it was a bunch of fags from some speed shop with a bmw that were complete assholes on and off the track.  you are allowed to keep the 'safety' item if you get cursed, and all they did was take the wheels and tires off
did the car by any chance look like this one? (the silver one)

Possibly, were you driving it?

no. its some assholes over at another forum i post on and hes been going to lemons races lately so i figured it would be him

I just came home from snagging an 83 toyota corolla that I plan on prepping for this with the intention of making a post about it and lo and behold JD beat me to it. It's RWD and light as fuck. And oh yeah it was free so it's a good start.

everything about this is awesome except for the 500 dollar entrance fee and 1500 dollar purse, its pretty lop sided.  None the less, I would totally like to do this, too bad there aren't too many rhmt ers near me.

There's nothing lopsided.  Tracks are pretty expensive to rent.

How about building a tank and aiming to take out every other car on the track?

I know reading ain't for everyone, but you might want to try it, if you're gonna' hangout here...

The vehicle's original, manufacturer-stated curb weight may not exceed 4200 pounds.

 LOUSY DRIVING

    * 6.1: Individual Lousy-Driving Rule: Lousy driving--which includes, but is not limited to, unnecessary contact, overly aggressive driving, chopping off other cars, unsportsmanlike conduct, lack of car control, just generally being an idiot, and/or proving an undue pain in the butt to fellow competitors--will result in a black-flag penalty for Lousy Driving. These penalties will be punished as follows:
o 6.1.1: First Individual Lousy-Driving Offense: Mandatory driver change; offending driver can't return to the track for three hours.
o 6.1.2: Second Individual Lousy-Driving Offense: Driver loses his wristband for the rest of the day.
o 6.1.3: Third Individual Lousy-Driving Offense: Driver is out for the rest of the season, beginning immediately.
    * 6.2: Team Lousy-Driving Rule: Teams are held jointly accountable for the Lousy Driving Offenses earned by their drivers. These penalties are punished as follows.
o 6.2.1: First Lousy-Driving Offense: Mandatory driver change, 30-minute vehicle impound.
          o 6.2.2: Second Lousy-Driving Offense: One-hour impound.
          o 6.2.3: Third Lousy-Driving Offense: Four-hour impound.
o 6.2.4: Fourth Lousy-Driving Offense: Just put your ass back on the trailer.
    * 6.3: Why Am I Upside-Down? Rule: You're upside-down because you have no business being out on a racetrack. Any driver who puts a car on its roof is out for the rest of the season, beginning immediately.
    * 6.4: Touching a Temporary Barrier: Physically contacting a cone, tire barrier, or any other temporary structure placed on the track by the organizers is an automatic Lousy Driving Offense With Exteme Prejudice. (You don't even want to know what that means--trust us.)

The rusty car is sitting free of drivetrain and safe brakes...  I think I'll try to attend the ohio race as a spectator n give this a whirl in a couple years.

Good plan. Everybody, find your nearest LeMons and attend it pronto.  Kiss ass and talk to track organizers and crews if you can, report back.

I could see almost any EF with a cheap vitara'd D-series turbo winning this race. The lower fuel consumption & weight would help gain laps while other teams refuel & change rubber.

The MAIN problem, looking at the vids, appears to be the other cars. Most are slow, heavy, poor handling cars. Everyone else would spin you like a top when you bump.

Has anyone here run a 160-200whp stock internal d for 24hours straight in this type of situation?  I think the greatest challenge would be reliability...

I agree that a 2g/4g would be the ideal chassis, for the same reasons you've listed.  The rusty car I mentioned is an 89hf.

I think a vitara build is out of the question.  Even though ycp's are cheap, things add up...  I think the ticket would be finding a good condition stock engine n tranny for dirt, which is becoming less and less common.

nimble n quick will take care of that bumpin' stuff...

I hate to mention this, there hated esp by JD but a mild NA B16 would be ideal for something like this, they can take a hellva beating.

P07, sir, the 7.x:1 CR is the ticket.  Clearance the engine a little loose and it'll be allllllriiiiiiiight.

You want to trade paint with a pristine example of the 57 Chevy or imports?  First, the car would be likely to get crushed, second YOUR LORD GOD COMMANDS YOU TO STOP RUINING CRXS
