I just picked up a set of used ARP headstuds for a future build, and they are the same length as the "B16A" headstuds that I bought several years back as an open box item.

Didn't know if anyone had a set laying around that they could measure.

Wouldn't hurt to try them out.  I know the B18 block is taller but maybe the B16 ones were just longer than necessary.

Is it a B18C5 aka R? If so then they are the same as a B16A/B head.

If it is a GSR B18C then two of the studs will be short. You can buy seperates from ARP.

I don't think you have a clue what you are talking about.

Last time I checked, the B18C5 has the same damn deck height as any other B18C block.

Deckheight has nothing to do with it. That is why ARP sells the same kit for B16A/B and B18C5. So what if the block is higher, the bolt goes through the head. The B18C GSR head is a different cast and thus different bolts regardless of the deck height.

B18C5 /B16 part no 208-4303
B18C1 Part no 208-4601

The two center bolts are different on the GSR head, about 1 cm longer IIRC.

It's called a head stud. The head gets bolted to the block. The block is bored for headstuds with respect to the top of the deck, not the oilpan. The stud hole depth is static regardless of total shortblock height.

Ok.

Pretty sure B18A/B is the one with the two longer studs in the middle, not GSR, but you know it all.

 


Both the B18C1 and B18C5 use a P72 part number for head bolts.  11x164 x 10.

B16A uses a PG6 part number.  11x155 x 10.

B18 A/B use two different PR4 part numbers.  11x158 x 8 and 11x188 x 2.


I think I will make my own inferences on whether these are the right ones for what I am doing.

Looks like someone is spreading SHIT information. Deck height matters bigtime because they don't have the threads the same distance from the deck between b16 and b18 vtec motors. Instead they maintained the thread position relative to the crankshaft. There may be a slightly better combo for LS/V because the GSR/ITR have a slightly taller deck than the LS, but people have used GSR/ITR headbolts in LS/V swaps for YEARS.

Exactly.  All I wanted was the info on the length of the studs, not some regurgitated internet myth based on hearsay and brimming with fail.

Both sets of B VTEC studs I have are 7.25" long.  That is about 184 mm in length.  Looks like they are bothe for the taller B18 blocks.

ive got a set of studs i used in my ls-vtec car a while ago. if you need exact length to confirm what ya got, ill measure them up when im in the shop
