RHMRamp?
« on: April 30, 2010, 06:07:40 AM »

Ok so I got a new shifter to replace the hacked off one in the Teg. Unfortunately my jack doesn't jack up high enough to get to the shifter location. Even if it did my drive way is on about a 45* slope, so really don't care for getting under it on a jack. The ramps I have don't go high enough and are too steep. The only ones I have seen locally cost a nice chunk and I still think they are too steep for my car.

With that being said I was thinking of this. Any flaws you can think of with this plan or improvements? Anyone have an idea on the price of the lumber (haven't had to buy any in years)?

As I type it into google I realize I'm not the first for this wonderful idea, damn it.

you say your problem is that you cant get your car high enough. how is 8" going to be high enough or good enough for you to fit under your car comfortably? the problem i have had on a few cars is my jack is shitty and my car was to low for the jacking point. so i had to drive on one 2by4 to raise my car high enough to jack it up. or if im in the dirt sometimes i dig a little divot lol.

Because if you were looking from the front of a 6' long ramp it would appear narrower at the top even though it isn't. I was trying to keep it realistic.  :P

Well I can get my jack under my car, but it doesn't get it up high enough to reach the shifter. I don't like using it with my driveway being sloped even to change the oil though.

dude jack stands are like 5 bucks a piece

jack up car.. place jack stands.. use rim/tire under jack to jack the car up higher again and raise the car more then your done

with that being said i wouldn't work under a car on a steep incline XD

but if you absolutely have to id take off 2 wheels/tires and stack them under the car incase it did go you wouldn't be dead..

also.. back the car in and jack it up from the front.. should be easier to work on

I have jack stands, that isn't the issue. Last time I put it up on jack stands to swap wheels they were popping and sliding. Fuck that, I am not crawling under that.

However, being the cheap and lazy person I am I do currently have it up in the air; parked sideways across the driveway, off the concrete ledge, over a 2x4, onto the metal ramps, back passenger side jacked up with jack stand under the rear. It seems somewhat stable, but if I don't post in a few hours someone call 911.

Got the shifter in. Now I can use a shift knob again. Feels so luxurious

Fuck it. Just go find a side walk, and drive one side up ont the curb, like in a stripmall or somthing, and then put a phone book in front of the 2 tires that are on the curb, and then drive on that, and then crawl under the car for some sweet action! all that  = FREE!

I'm aware it is .5" off, which is retarded as shit why can't they just do it by the right measurements. I was going by the "marketed measurements".

This is the one I was going to go with if I built it. I decided to do six levels. The matching dots means that that is the leftover from the matching board. The one with the four dots is equally split and would be used on the other ramp.

I did this at school to get under the car.  Worked well, although all I did was pull it forward until I jumped the curb with the front tires.  Set parking brake, chock wheels, and go.

buy a SUV jack for $30, quit being a cheapass, you'll end up a crushed dead cheapass.

Even my fatass on a creeper can fit anywhere under the car without rubbing.

I just use a big 3.5 ton and 2x6's. Then I stick 4x4's under the LCA's, switch to the SUV adapter, then set the tires on concrete blocks.

I've done 2 alignments and 2 exhausts that way. SHit is fucking solid.
