Solid CEL = dead ECU?
« on: May 22, 2010, 08:55:15 PM »

Fixed one problem and got another.

Car was running weak and sounding weird because the cam gear bolt backed out along with the key, which chewed up the notch in the cam and the key.

Replaced the cam and key, runs like normal again EXCEPT vtec doesn't work and at about 7000 rpm it feels like it hits a rev limiter.

I have a solid CEL whether the SC is jumped or not.  Tried resetting by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and still have it.

Any other causes?  Anyone got a chipped P28 for sale?

Chipped P28.

Verified the ROM with my Willem, and it passed verification.

Erased the chip, and reflashed with offset 8000 and now the CEL stays on solid no matter what and it idles 1250-1500 even when warm.

Just to be sure, try another chip. I've had them go bad for no apparent reason before.

Do you know offhand if this is something my local radioshack may have in stock?

Wouldn't verification fail on the Willem if the chip was bad?

Doubt RS has them, you can get a 5 pack on ebay cheap, better yet see if someone here has some spares. You should always keep a few spare chips around.

Not sure about the willem verify

Sounds like a fucked ECU.

Hope you have been able to break the motor in by now.  If you haven't, doesn't look good.  :(

I've put 2500+ miles of abuse on it so far so should be broken in.

Getting annoyed by all this bullshit :P
