Mess with the settings and use it for a while...I find it to be much faster than the touchpad.  You can move all over without ever lifting your fingers.

I was given my first T20 by a random individual.  Comparing it to everyone else's plastic piece of shit, I never looked back.

Nothing like bracing your palm against the palmrest (where a useless scratchpad normally is) and being able to manipulate the pointer wherever you want it in the harshest of environments.  I've tried trackballs strapped to my thigh, useless.  Giving up a hand already conveniently ON the keyboard to hold a handheld trackball like SgtB proposes is silly.

When I was shopping for my laptop, Blundell suggested a T42, him standing on his tuning laptop proved a point, durable.

I also liked the idea of the nipple, but never use it, Touchpad FTW.

Now if I could find a keyboard with the same touchpad, I'd be happy. JD I know has hinted at them before.

Lenovo sells a USB Thinkpad keyboard, has TrackPoint as well as scratchpad.  Clone of the T500 keyboard, IIRC.  $57 plus ship from Newegg.

That usb keyboard is pure win. If I ever get a free lappy better than my ancient T60, you can bet I'm tearing out the stock keyboard and making that one fit.

That's why I overpaid for an IBM - to rub a power nipple. I can't fucking stand touchpads, even when you crank sensitivity, remove accidental double-click madness, and tell the scroll section to stfu.

You just flip it up out of the way and type. It's got a ring on it. Not as bad as you think, but oh well. It works. I hate trackpoints.
