my cousin has a s10 with a v6 motor 4.3l
when stopped at a light the oil pressure drops to almost 0 and you can hear a knock.. but when you rev the motor the oil pressure goes up and the knock goes away.. he has been babying it and trying to make the motor last as long as possible

question isss...

is it just a bad oil pump? or is it more serious damage? idk.. could you install an external oil pump or some bs? idk.. rofl

if it was a bearing knock it would do it all the time

its juat a top end noise from lack of oil

if its the ele gauge in the dash they arent accurate anyways lots of them ahow 0 of barely above when thwy are old at idle

it only needs around 8psi at idle to survive

No, Blissy-wissy, that's bearing rap. A 4.3 liter V6 has god almighty for an oil pump (350) and an improperly crossdrilled crankshaft (worse than D16Y). They all do that, and it's been a known problem for 15+ years now.

Slapping a new pump in it is just buying time. They don't just wear out, and if they did, they would take out other shit in the wake of their failure.

I vote clogged pump screen.

It knocks so it really does lose oil pressure.
knock goes awy with a bit of rpm so i doubt the bearings are totally shot.

either way though, you pull the motor to do either repair, so puta pump on it while your there. And stick with a no magic standard pressure/volume . te hi volume ones just pump all the oil into the valve covers.

That's totally how I fixed my "no oil pressure at idle - BMW" issue, after filling it with 50w. Idle + 500 rpms = no blinky oil light, no more rough idle.
