Turbonetics wastegate springs
« on: July 25, 2010, 06:44:35 AM »

So i have a turbonetics evolution wastegate with a 7psi spring in it with shims. PO said it was boosting like 9psi. I want to run 12-15psi from just the spring or spring shim combo. I read that with the 9psi spring and all 5 shims people were seeing up to "13psi"

Does anyone know if the other springs from the turbonetics wastegates will work in the evolution gate? I know their race gate has a 15psi spring.

Four port Humphrey valve and don't worry about it.

Im just wondering if they would just say no, right away and expect me to buy a new version of their wastegate. I havent found the 11 or 15psi springs yet forsale online either...

Look into how a 4 port solenoid works compared to a 3 port.

I'm running one of those gates,  pretty sure I have the 7psi spring in it also.  I tried a ball/spring type controller and it did nothing.
Ended up getting a regulator like the one turbonetics sells and hooking it up like their directions say, works great.  just wish it didn't require a cluster fuck of hoses.  But it holds a steady 31psi now.

Your not supposed to set your boost over 2x the spring pressure or so i have been told. I never tried to do it though so that maybe wrong. Iirc it causes boost creep

Now i haven't looked into the method JD and eville140 suggested to use, but i'm fairly curtain they would suggest it unless it worked well.

Now for a standard 2 port mbc that statment of 2x spring pressure would ring true.

thats exactly what i was thinking and have seen on several different places. Thats why i was trying to see if the 11 or 15psi  spring would work. with shims... i think they would come out to bed like 13-14 tp 17-18psi with out boost controller attached.

IIRC, it doesn't.

I personally like to use the lightest spring I can to keep the most adjustability. That's just me though

I suggest against using shims from my experiences they cause boost creep due to the fact the wg doesnt open as far as it should. I tried not exactly shims but on an older audi wg you can tighten the screw and put more pressure on the spring problem is then the dump wont open far enough to bypass enough. I would think shimming to much would cause the spring to bind causing the same situation.  Just my opinion
