What's a good, old project bike?
« on: August 06, 2010, 07:58:32 PM »

First, does anyone know how easy it is to get bike parts from a salvage yard, put it together, and get it registered?  I know it'll vary by state, but I'm assuming it's similar to a car where you just get it rebuilt and have it inspected.

My old man and I are going to a bike junk yard soon to see what they have.  I'd like to find a "classic" bike as a project to rebuild/restore and putter around town.  Aesthetics and performance are nice features.

I dunno, my friend bought a 600rr, a 05 or something, and it was a salvage title, he spent like 2500 buying it but after fixing everything, new forks, new rims, CDM ebay fairings, etc etc, it ended up running him about 4500, which is the price he could have bought a clean title no crash/small dropped 600rr.
