n00b intro threads remind me of...
« on: August 12, 2010, 01:45:05 PM »

how much i suck. can't believe i never posted one. anyway..

name is karl.

project car is a 91 MR2 turbo @ 155k miles. Hardtop car, no PS, no PW, no PL.
winter beater is a B5 A4
wife has an 04 350Z that is stock except low offset fat rims and tires.

MR2 has:
powertrain
- stock cams, pistons, rods, exhaust manifold etc.
- TD06-17c turbocharger from a GMC syclone, ported to hell/ weir racing adapter plate
- 2.5" charge pipes with JB weld beads, JBwelded TB inlet.
- 3" berk exhaust that i got for almost nothing by making some gen3 MAP sensors for them
- wrx decapitated injectors/celica 3SGE top feed fuel rail/S4 fuel filter/whineboro 255/E85 fuel
- celica 3SGE side feed intake manifold
- ebay intercooler core w/1kCFM fan mounted by driver's side vent
- deleted blowoff valve
- TVIS controlled by boost pressure for spooling moar fastar.
- Accord distributor/Integra P75 ECU chipped with crome running the engine/2.5bar MAP sensor running 20psi of boost (i need to order more 3bar sensors so i can turn up the boost)
- bastard clutch: spec 2+ disc with RPS pressure plate. need to get rid of it
- rev2 E153 gearbox with factory LSD (didn't know i was getting an LSD when i bought it)
- PLX SM-AFR

chassis
- H&R coilovers
- ST swaybars with reinforcement plates welded to the chassis to prevent them ripping out.
- buddyclub P1racing (aka kosei K1) 17x8+32F, 17x9+37R with 235/40F and 255/40R dunlop star specs.
- porsche 996C4 calipers on supraTT discs up front, 88 fiero calipers on rav4 discs in back

indeed it is. easy as fuck to tune. drives far better than it ever did on the toyota ECU. starts faster, throttle transitions are smoother, etc. even with the E85 i'm still getting 25-27mpg on the highway too and i've done a couple of road trips this summer and had no problems finding stations within the range of my gas tank. this is the ECU that should have come on these cars from the factory. plenty of kids swap over to the gen3 ECUs, which are speed density, but the MAP sensor for that ECU alone usually goes for $200+. so i figured out a way to emulate them for about $15, got a vendor on board who had parts that i wanted... ????? profit.

i've been intending for a while to get rid of the distributor and switch to coilpacks/COP too. the electronics are designed, but i haven't had a chance to test them. jaredkaragen posted over on the ectune forums that he has all the components now, but for some reason i can't post there anymore to help him out with it.

i want to get a trigger wheel cut as well that i can just mount on the exhaust cam with some hall sensors so i won't need that gigantic distributor hanging off the head. i have a board mostly designed that would replace HIC1 in the honda ECU and translate the toyota distributor signals into what the honda ECU needs to see, but i'm lazy as fuck and never get around to it.

also, i have no idea how much power it's making right now, but it's got to be well north of 300whp. i'd like to see what the 17c compressor can do, but i'll probably swap it out this winter for an 18g. at 14psi i was driving away from CTS-Vs at road america and pulling on an audi RS-6 pretty steadily. it's quite a bit faster than that at 20psi. last time it was on a dyno it put down 276/271 at 13psi leaning out above 5k due to the stock fuel pump running out of juice on the ethanol.

i'd like to weigh the car too. SW20's are pretty porky for how small they are, but you can shave quite a bit of weight in the turbo/exhaust/suspension/seats/etc, so i'm hoping i'm around 2600lbs, being that i don't have any of the power luxuries.
