CRZ now on the lots
« on: August 26, 2010, 07:20:27 PM »

So the CRZs are finally on the lots.  They were just released Tuesday.  I test drove one today and I really liked it.  There was only one left out 4 or 5 at the honda dealership here in town.  The others were all purchased by guys who showed up in crx's lol  :noel:

Of course theres plenty that could have been done to please the crx crowd but god damn it was still pretty awesome.

Thoughts guys?  Particularly from those who have been in it or driven it.  I know the general opinions of it before its release.  In person does it more justice than the pictures/videos depict.

Meh.  What did you like about it?

I think they're pretty damn ugly.  They look considerably better in red or black, but still meh...

They're pretty damn slow.  The Odyssey is faster and it's not a "sport" vehicle.

They could have got the same gas mileage from a gas-only engine.  An SI with a K20 would have been much nicer.

They could have saved a lot of weight without the hybrid bullshit.

If I had to choose between a 1991 CRX Si and a 2010 CRZ, both brand new, I'd pick up the CRX without having to think...

However, I would rock the shit out of this widebody (no blue dash) mid-engine CRZ:

They're thinking it'll run in the GT300, so maybe V6?

Wier, show 'em what's up.

K20 and i would find the funds...

speaking of funds. every one we are getting is getting body side moldings ( :-X ), rear wing, and all season package shit (muds/mats/tray)...
black one on showroom floor got all that and front lip, sides, defuser, 17" wheels... looks pretty good

I'll wait to find one w/dead batteries for dirt, place a proper drivetrain in it, then we'll see how it do...

A proper drivetrain consists of more than just an engine that is capable of making power...   :P

Fucking blasphemy for honda to build something like that.  Didn't it used to be like honda's pride and joy (other than VTAKKK) in the 90's that basically everything they made had double-wishbone suspension at all four corners?

i can post a screen shot of the catalog later. but its not like a strait axle like an old VW. it looks like its got some design behind it. but still....

yes threw most of the 90s honda was proud that all of there cars where F1 inspired double wishbone suspension (and some VTEC powered). i remember the commercials of hondas taking corners hard.

from a parts counter guy standpoint tho. i do sell parts for strut cars. where as the double wishbone cars i dont sell much of shit for.

also, honda warranties those stupid batteries for like 8/80. might be a long wait.

Hope they at least did something cool with the solid rear axle like a watts link or a satchel link.

I'm sure the solid axle is a lot like my wifes fit. It's sort of a trailing arm setup, but at the end of the day it's still a solid axle pile of fail.

On a side note, the fit does handle pretty well for what it is

Nothing really wrong with the solid in the back.  People think because it is an old design it is inferior.  I have seen many cars do very well on solid axles next to equivalent cars with double wishbone rears.  The fact that you can adjust how high or low the center of roll is with solid rear axles is really nice.

I don't really have anything to compare it with right now, but it feels pretty solid when you are pushing it hard.

I guess I did forget about that, but even that car handled better than this new tank of a 2 seater.

Just an update.  I sat in a crz yesterday.  There is a significant lack of visibility.  The blind spots are as bad as a del sol.  The quarter window is worthless.

I haven't sat in an insight, but I think if I were looking for a hybrid to turn into a crx I'd be looking for one of those w/dead batteries.  I'm sure something could be done with the superhomo wheel skirts to turn them into flared arches so you can install a high offset wheel to give the thing a proper stance...

89 HF with Si motor and boost, best CRX ever.

There's a limited number of quality crx chassis remaining.  Once people realize this the price will go up.  I feel like the insight may be an option for a similar cost/fun ratio, just there weren't quite as many sold...  One other car that may fit the mold, and was sold in massive quantities, is the 2g mini cooper.
