Anyone seen these flanges before?
« on: September 06, 2010, 04:14:00 PM »

I just snagged an IHI RHB6 off craigslist for cheap, only problem is it's got this goofy inlet flange.

it's like a t25 flange, but narrower, but only by a little. it's kind of a bitch, because if I want to use the stock t25 manifold on my CA18DET, I have to take the studs out, fill the holes in the cast iron manifold, and redrill/tap accordingly, since the new holes are close enough to the old ones that they'd overlap.

anyway, if anyone knows where I could get a flange or even just a gasket for this thing, I'd appreciate it

the outlet is like this

and it'd be real nice if I could find a gasket for that side, too

pic of the turbo for reference:

fuck THAT, KA+T are for niggers. and you can lick my gooch instead since that hood was fucked to begin with and I don't want to respray the blue one. kid I know has "a diesel turbo" that he's going to get for dirt cheap, if it turns out to be something cool I might run it, but as near as I can figure the RHB6 is somewhere in the same ballpark as the subaru VF series turbos, so I can be in the neighborhood of 250-300whp, which is plenty for a stripped s-chassis. the other cool part is I can run 20psi on it without blowing the motor apart, instead of having to run 10psi on a big turbo and not making any power until redline.

they definitely don't have the almost t25 flange, but I'm sure I could have them cut me one with the bolt holes narrower and weld it on a china bottommount manifold

<3

a stock shitty old CA can make 300hp maybe, so why not run a turbo that can only flow that much air? I can let it spike 20 to get midrange out of it, and it'll fall off to 14 or something by redline, and never flow enough air that I have to worry about lifting the head or something stupid. If I get a HX35 or a 50 trim or something big, I have to waste money on a tial gate, and then be a faggot and run spring pressure so shit doesn't explode or waste more money on this beater piece of shit building the motor to actually be able to make 400.

fuck that. I paid a few hundred more and I have a motor that isn't trash

anyway, can I fill and redrill the stock cast manifold? I've heard you can do it with TIG and nickel rod, but is there an easier way? JB weld that shit, redrill and hope for the best?

So you'd rather blow 20psi worth of hot air, out of the turbo's efficiency range, than run a PROPER turbo at HALF the boost well within it's efficiency range? Makes perfect sense. "Diesel"  turbos are the way to go. A Holset will ass fuck anything you throw at it while laughing at your faggot ass hood. They have VERY broad efficiency range (look at a holset map, and how fucking FAT the islands are). You can buy a used one for LESS than $300, and it will out last you. I'm getting parts together for a non vgt he351 for my SR, and considering as big as an HX40.

TL;DR?

AVP Dyno Day 95 240sx 2 Less Music
pistons and a big turbo will blow you better than even the best polish nympho
Little turbos are like little asians good for people with little dicks I guess kinda explains its self then. Why the fuck are you looking to crank out torque on a 1.8l when you could have had 2.4l so much easier??

Someone just wants to tell his gay friends "hey look 20lbs of boost man my car is fast"
Should just rock a 1.0l turbo metro if thats your logic.

better than telling my gay friends "hey look a 50 trim man my car is fast" and running 7psi and having a shitty powerband

if I put a gay little turbo on I can beat the fuck out of the car and not worry about blowing shit up, and the CA saves 100lbs off the nose of the car over KA+T

then dont be a pussy and run 7lbs and you know how turbos work right?
7psi from a large compressor and turbine flow way more cool air than 20psi from a choked up pos rhb6. I ran that same turbo and boost started to fall off by 6500 on a d16 so what makes you think this is a good idea

must wanna drift dawg I hope you fuck up and wrap yourself around a light post.

most people with ca18's just run nissan t28's, and those are pretty small. hell, ever ridden in a modded stock turbo 06-08 WRX? 2.5 liter 4 banger with a td04-13t and shitty cams, and it does well enough. STi's are a RHF55 on a 2.5l, and with exhaust and a tune they move.

who gives a fuck if the boost tapers, if it's full boost by 3500 and holds to 5 I'll be happy until I feel like I have to go topmount and build the motor

So if you wanted a 1500rpm powerband umm why not have run a bigger turbo setup to begin with and just have a 5500-7000 rpm powerband not seeing your logic here and a sti looses boost like the chick in those porn pics needs to loose the blond hair

really I'll just have to see how much the boost drops off

if I still get a bar of boost or close to it by redline I'll be fine with that
