TTC tuning question thread
« on: September 11, 2010, 11:45:08 AM »

I've decided to put all my questions into one thread with high hopes of people answering when tey have time and the addition of pron now and again.

I'm curious as to what steps are taking when for instance tuning it fall weather when its cold like now ... Here anyway and insuring its safe for hot weather in july or vice versa.  What kind of changes can I expect, things like leaner mixtures in cold ect?

IAT compensation tables should handle most temperature changes.

i had to mess with mine a good bit NH swings from like -20 to 100 in the summer LOL

i remeber when i took the car snowboarding it ran like poooooh and was really lean, just played with the IAT and ECT a bit and all was well.

i would if it you messed with the IAT until it idled at 14.7 (or wherever you were set) the rest was pretty close, maybe push it a little more since the air flow cools the IAT's waaaay down in really cold weather

+5 million

Tune once, note IATs at time of tune.  When you have a significant swing in temps, retune and adjust IAT fuel trims.

If that doesn't work correctly you have some other issue, engine is damaged or you have shitty leaking charge pipe, etc.

Do you find that IAT sensors stuck in the IM itself heatsoat really bad and thus don't respond to actual air temp changes that well?

I would say yes.  JD, Sewell and others who have more actual experience may have a different outlook though.

I just relocated mine to the charge pipe to see if I can avoid heatsoaking the sensor as much. Only put 2 miles on the car since though...

Sounds like a decent plan, so note the afrs and change accordingly.  IIRC Megashits uses a coolant related air density graph and AIT ign controls.

One thing that is giving m ea hard ass time is that my accel enrichment are kicking in under WOT runs at 200+kpa and highish rpms.  MSEFI website is of no use as of yet.

No, but IATs stuck into charge pipe so they don't monitor IM temp @ idle are prone to idle problems.

There are three load levels with individual IAT tables, idle for adjusting mixture vs IM temp, medium/cruise which barely changes and can be ignored on most cars, and high load/WOT which is when there's enough air flowing past the IAT that it stops reading IM temps and falls promptly into line.

Heh, I always kind of wondered what that mess was all about.  Makes perfect sense now.

Is it normal to see 35* difference in IAT temps with the sensor on the IM vs. the charge pipe? Drove around tuning/datalogging this morning and paid close attention to my IAT readings since I just relocated my sensor. With it in the IM, I was seeing 122* temps at WOT, in the chrage pipe a few inches before the TB today I was seeing 92-95*...with ambient temps within a few degrees day to day

IAT in charge pipe has vastly lower temp readings, but not so much at WOT.  I would not doubt there is a difference in a NA vehicle, but in a turbo vehicle with a good IC both mounting points read 25 degrees over ambient.

That said it's obviously not important unless you are conducting an experiment where you need actual, and accurate, IATs.  As long as whatever IAT readings you have are consistent and allow you to tune accordingly then the system simply works.
