2012 shaping up to be an interesting year after all?
« on: October 18, 2011, 01:34:40 AM »

About those protests...

At their current state, I don't see anything coming out of them.  Think they will escalate to something a little more exciting?

I don't understand any of your responses, and I don't feel I've drank enough to be this confused.

1:40 is where the fun begins.  Maybe it was warranted, but I'm having a hard time thinking of a good reason.

Don't quite agree with all the people there.  Upset that you can't pay the student loans you took out?  I'm open to some justification, but sounds like a personal problem.  Overall, corporations/government has been fucking the general public for a looooooooong time.  I've always thought the disparity between the rich and poor is bound to increase in a capitalist economy, but it's never seemed sustainable...  The rich crowd shrinks as the poor crowd grows, and there is power in numbers.

The student loan shit is kind of sketch. You can't totally blame a lot of students for taking out more loans that they can pay back. Not everyone is intelligent enough to realize that the colleges are lying to them. Lately, most colleges have been targeting inner city poor under the guise of diversity. When i first started college there were almost no inner city kids and by the time I left almost all of the gen eds were filled with completely ghetto motherfuckers because the school was recruiting in poor, ghetto areas. Filling out FAFSA for people who aren't intelligent enough to do it themselves and telling these kids to take out massive loans to stay on campus, promising them that when they'll get out they'll all have high paying jobs and the 40-80 grand they go in debt is totally worth it. Most people believe it.  They're told by their parents that a college education is important, other older people that they look up to and admire say the same things. They see people with college degrees who make good money and have a decent career, but I mean you can't even really gauge the situation until you're out of college and applying for jobs.

I obviously didn't expect to make any money with my philosophy degree, so don't try to reverse this shit on my experience with a HURR DURR IM AN ENGINEER AND IF EVERYONE WAS AN ENGINEER WE WOULD ALL BE LIVING IN A PERFECT WORLD OF ENGINEERS CAUSE EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE ENGINEERD BY AN ENGINEER CAUSE OTHER PEOPLE DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE STUFF LOL AND IF YOUR NOT AN ENGINEER YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO MAKE STUFF EVER CAUSE UR DUMB AND IF UR SMART YOUD BE AN ENGINEER CAUS YOU OBVIOUSLY MAKE MORE MONEY AND THAT IS ALL THAT IS IMPORTANT CAUSE IF YOU HAVE MONEY THEN YOU CAN BUY STUFF LOL.

If people received a fair amount while holding a decent job, they COULD pay off student loans quite easily. I don't advocating socialism, just fair pay.

5% of the population actually does hold 95% of USA's wealth. Not money, wealth. This type of system is indeed not sustainable as the average education level increases decade by decade, and the internet as a means of free speech makes it even less sustainable. I can see a few millionaires, but not billionaires.

I hope some day a couple of pissed-off snipers who got screwed over by the insanely wealthy go on a stealthy rampage.

It's easy to pay off student loans.  First step:  Go to a public university in your state.  Don't go to a fucking private or worse.. out of state public.  It's just dumb.  Dumb dumb dumb.  Second step:  Apply for grants.  If you're applying to an in state public you will qualify for something.  If you don't your folks are in decent shape and are expected to help.  My parents are poor.  Therefore, I got VA grants and scholarships for not being a dumbass.  Because of my choice to pick an in state public university my shit is paid for (one way or another).

Cliffs:  Fuck you, don't be stupid, you get what you deserve you hipster fags.  Why demand more socialism when the socialism that is already there can help you if you aren't a total dumbass?

these people are fucking retarded. it's not rocket surgery. the same 500ish people have made it possible for our economy to be driven into the shitter. these "evil" corporations are out to turn a profit, just as you or i would. to expect them to have a crisis of conscience when they're not even doing anything illegal is ridiculous.

i took a walk last week in westlake where occupy seattle was, and it's obvious that these idiots made terrible financial decisions, loans, houses, etc.i talked to probably a dozen individuals, and not ONE of them knew what glass-steagall is, what a credit default swap was, what a CDO was, or what role government played in the whole deal. to these people, corporations are responsible for the collapse.

no, it isn't fair that the banks get bailed out, but LOOK AT WHO BAILED THEM OUT, YOU FUCKING DIPSHITS. THE SAME RETARDS YOU INVALIDS ELECTED (again). the "99%" are fucking worthless shitbags who can't understand that paying a HALF MILLION DOLLARS ON A GODDAMNED ARM LOAN for a house that cost 180K 3 years ago is financial suicide and previously racked up 100K in student loans for liberal arts degrees can go kick rocks.

this couldn't have happened without the consent, passive or otherwise of the "99%". they signed on the dotted line, probably without reading the fine print. fine with me, but get the fuck out of my parks, and either go work at labor ready and live within your means, or eat a bullet and save some oxygen for the rest of us.

I know what you mean but haven't thought of it in this situation...  I've wanted to tell a ton of people that are pursuing whatever ridiculous degree at whatever college they saw advertising (ie DeVry, Phoenix, etc) that they're wasting their time and money, but I hate crushing dreams.  Usually I'd say "fuck 'em," but it is preying on the weak which is totally shitty, bro.  Nothing different than liquor stores, fast food, cash advance, title loan, and military recruitment being more prevalent in low-income areas.

these people are fucking retarded. it's not rocket surgery. the same 500ish people have made it possible for our economy to be driven into the shitter. these "evil" corporations are out to turn a profit, just as you or i would. to expect them to have a crisis of conscience when they're not even doing anything illegal is ridiculous.

Why is evil quoted?  It's completely true and I would expect you to be aware of it.  I'm kind of on the fence about it all though.  Just because these companies and politicians can lie through their teeth and people are stupid enough to believe them, doesn't mean it's alright.

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=613_1318889087

Howard Stern is stupid, and it shouldn't surprise you he was able to find morons.  I guarantee they didn't randomly pick what clips they played, they picked the ones that best illustrated their opinion that they're all dumb stoners.  A bunch are I'm sure, but I'm glad to see anything that gets Americans off their asses, because we have been getting fucked for decades...

because when these retards were flush with cash, GE, Nike, Apple, Starbucks, every corporation that shipped jobs overseas were perfectly great and acceptable. their roth IRA's or 401k's managed by principal or fidelity or whomever were perfectly ok in their book. now that they've fucked themselves into financial oblivion, profit is the enemy. fuck that,

I don't have an ounce of pity for those that caused their own debt but I still have anger towards the gov't and corps.  Why can't I be pissed?  I was pissed when the jobs shipped overseas, I'm still pissed the countries actually benefit from shipping jobs elsewhere through tax breaks/loopholes, pissed at the government for allowing it to happen.  It's not my fault 90% of the country doesn't pay attention and I can be pissed I have to put up with the fallout.  I can be pissed virtually every industry is controlled by an increasingly smaller number of people and corporations.  Look at the fucking food industry.

Special shout-out to my boys at Monsanto,

FUCK YOU

you're not getting what i'm saying. be pissed all you want, but until you direct your anger in the direction of the people that can actually effect a change... aka the same 500ish people that made it possible to run this country into the ground. until the laws are changed, no corporation will change the way they're doing business.

Meh, I know I'm relatively smart, so if you think otherwise I won't be upset ;)  What I don't understand is why they keep being grouped together as if they're all there for the same reason or whether they all do/don't know why they're there.  I'm sure there are some people there just to grope some ass.  I'm aware they aren't going to get anywhere with this -- I said in the original post that it isn't going to accomplish anything on Wall Street, and I know whining to traders isn't going to get anything accomplished.  A lot of people have a lot of reasons to be pissed; some legitimate, some not.  To claim that nobody there has a reason to whine is nuts.  I'm pissed and I don't have a college degree, make $60k+, haven't gone bankrupt or lost a home, and other than the car I don't have any debt.  Again, not the best choice of venue, but I have a feeling a lot of the protesters can't just take a quick trip to DC.  If you get your protest information from the news, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.  All-in-all, I'm glad to see people on their feet bitching.

Also, what hidden agendas and scary tactics/actions?

Your a smart dude who will go places unlike the majority of asshats at state schools. Sometimes student loans are just needed. I got lucky and had a solid job through school and dint have to go in the loan direction. I lived uber ghetto but it was a learning experince. i did have 2 swapped cars at the time so life wasnt that bad.
