Anyone into aquariums?
« on: October 20, 2011, 03:05:41 PM »

Been working on this bitch for over a year now. Its a 55g.  I had some fish die not too long ago from a nitrogen spike but it pretty stable now so i'm about to throw some cool fish in it. Any suggestions? Was thinking about some cichlids but idk.

Most people tell you how salt water is so hard and this and that, what they fail to tell you is that bigger tanks are stable so yea if you have a shitty 10g salt water tank its going to be HARD to keep it stable but you go to a big daddy and it works itself... also the more variety of living species you keep the better it is for the tank it gets to a point it almost takes care of itself but you have to have a little of everything. i want to get a tank with a morena and a few crabs

Thank you for posting this thread!!! Ive been meaning to post up a similar thread for the past few months now but i'm a lazy mother fuck. Dig the live plants but not for me. Did it once, never again. Dont have the time between work, not having sex, community service, and my kiddo. i like my aquarium plants like I like titties.... fake but realistic. Here's a few pics... about 4 months old though. Jack Dempsey Cichlids, African Spoted Leaf Fish, and  Carl the Fiddler Crab.

Here is a pic of my old 180 gallon saltwater tank. It sprung a leak about 2 weeks ago and i had to tear it down and stick it all in a 125.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Really really crappy pic cuz the white balance is all off and it doesn't show any colors at all, but its a mixed reef, mostly LPS/SPS tank with a few fish. Talk about expensive, the light on my tank cost $1300. Ill try to get some better pics off my other laptop in a little bit.

....and one of these. Is this the same crab you have?

Same guy... Male Fiddler. What I later found out is that they dont just kick it under water. They love to climb and WILL get out if tank if not secure. Imagine if you will waking up at 3am on the den floor w/ one of these fucks crawling up your pant leg. Scary shit right therrr. Make some kind of ledge out of cork or whatever for it to chill on. They also spend about 3 hours a day doing a mating dance thats entertaining to watch.

im surprized the Jack Dempsey doesn't mess with that crab, mine is a prick to anything i try to introduce new into the tank, however he doesnt mess with my clown loaches???

The Jacks do fuck w/ him on occasion but hes big enough to hold his own and has given one of the fish a "fuck off" grab and slam in the past. The Jacks are pretty aggressive and bite at me when i have to fix the plants. Cichlids do A LOT of redecorating, especially when they build a nest. Mine fuck like rabbits and have about 200 babies about every 2 months. I just let nature take its course and only the strong survive. Currently a swarm of fry right now but by the middle of the week theres only gonna be like 5 left.

This is my 1.6 gallon tank.

Assuming theres brown trout in that tank? No pics needed. :(
