ok so i got my mini-me motor done and dropped into the car last-night. got everything hooked up (i rigged my d15b7 distributor onto my d16z6 head) anyways went to start the car and..............IT started right up after a few cranks  ;D but after a few seconds it started to idle at1,500 RPM's and then the idle would go up-down----up-down---- so i messed with the distributor some and got it at a steady idle still at 1,500 rpm's but when i give it gas and hold it down some the motor acts like it has two step or something and this is with the distributor turned anyway FRONT-or-BACK  >:(   i can rev it up but thats all everytime i just hold the gas down some it will do that. not sure what it is just sounds like- fuel cut-or- like a 2step- just it acts like it wants to die instead of get gas????????? anybody know what this could be. i think it has something to do with the distributor but just want to get some other opinions first. :( if it is the distributor is their a way to make the b7 work ?

Did you check water level? Could have a bubble up in the thermal idle thingamajig.

Could be you have the tps and map sensor plugs mixed up.

I have used a non v-tec dizzy on a v-tec head with no problems.

As long as you can at least get one bolt hole lined up and tightened done you should be ok.

Check timing with timing light.

If you have the sensors switch the car will start-up but the engine will not run right when you start driving.

ok switched the sensors and nothing happened? found out that the throttle bodie is sucking in air from one of the factory holes in the throttle bodie and is causing it to idle like crazy. i can put my finger over the hole and the idle will go down not sure whats going on their but anyways when i give it gas it still does the 2-step thing  :-\

Virtually ANY intake leak from a missing/broke hose, bad TB or Intake gasket, or whatever will cause a shitty idle. However its usually the TPS that creates reving issues. Look at the wires on all 3-wire plugs, then match them up to the appropriate obd1 diagram. Don't guess on plugs, you can burn shit inside the ECU by doing that - if you haven't already.

Why people don't label their plugs/wires is beyond me.  :?:

I always intend to label things but laziness prevails.  Fucks me every time too so you'd think I would learn.

yea,,, not sure if this is it but since i have the 3 wire iacv and a non vtec wire harness-(vtec is all wired up)- from a p2e ecu and my ecu is a p2p sohc vtec. i read that i have to wire up the 3 wire iacv to work with my p2p ecu i have to move a wire(the black/blue wire) to another pin and cut the orange wire or just take the orange wire out of my harness? im going try that and see if that does anything. also the hole in the throttle-bodie that goes down to the iacv on the t-b is where it is sucking in to much air , with the motor running i can cover the hole up with my finger and it will  idle normal. but now i just have to figure out y when i give it a little gas it does that 2-step wearied thing :-\

ok i did the wire thing for the 3 wire iacv to work take the orange wire out and moved the blue/black wire started the car and as soon as it started it revved up real high, so i just shut the car off im going to mess with it more tomorrow oh and turboblack2door i tried switching the tps/map plugs and nothing happened,. i even took a look at my b20vtec motor and yeah the plugs are in the right spots.... i might just have to rig up a 2 wire iacv when i get more time to work on the car but well see what i can do about the 3 wire first....

thats right  :-[ ok the car hasn't acted up again yet!!!  but now that i have it running the fucker is smokeing a little so i drove it around hopeing it would stop but now its only worse so i took the exhaust manifold off and their is oil coming out/ laying in one of the ports for the valves so looks like now i might be doing valve seals YEAH  >:(  never have done these before but i guess you learn something new everyday :?: so now i just have to figure out how to do it with the head still on the car i know i can use a air comp. but dont really have one available right now so i was thinking about trying some needle nose vice grips i have to hold the valve up through the valve port ;D.. well see what happens

or just put the cyl you are working on at TDC...  its not like there is going to be a cam and rocker pushing down a valve to stop you from turning the motor over while you work on it.

What bone was trying to say is that you can feed a bunch of twine/rope into the cylender when its at bdc and then rotate it over to tdc. Use a socket w/ extention and smack jt with a hammer. Now the problem is how the hell are you going to compress the spring and put the keepers in? I would just yard the head off and do it right insted of trying to fight with it.

Always a good time to swap gaskets, even if they're still good.

Sohc springs are so soft, you can compress them by hand and have a buddy put the retainer locks back in. I've done it that way.
