Zen and the art of building shitty cars. - My garage
« on: November 28, 2011, 11:23:53 PM »

It takes a great deal of skill, alcohol and buckets of money to continually build cars that blow up in an epic fashion. So when my wife to be and I set out to buy a house I knew I needed a place to make broken dreams come true.

The house is on  nearly 2 acres so when I want to extend my garage I can... it's also about 5 miles from 4 Wrecking yards

The detached garage initially had no heat, insulation or drywall..  I like to be comfy when I build stuff so my project begins.  Keep in mind I didn't start this until mid october.

First off a friend  and I wired it with enough outlets for a hospital. One thing that always drove me nuts was that my father had a 15 car garage with 2 outlets.  While we're at it why not add some sound. I have a spare sony surround sound system, so off to princess auto we went and scored 500 ft of speaker wire for $10. We wired in in a fashion that it was away from the power wires (worried about fields)  So now the garage has dolby 5.1.   My old 42" TV was up next and mounted to the wall with a VGA computer imput. Traded some civic parts for a desktop computer and I built a bench tall enough for my drill press and to sit under. (I wont do any grinding @ this station)

How it looked a few days after GRM...(October)

I cant stand the cold, Im a princess.. So  I insulated it and I had it drywalled by one of my sales guys dads. He did an amazing job. Once that was complete I rented an industrial paint gun and primed it - next day painted the garage  gray.

Now

What you can't see -  60 gallon compressor bought from ktownpowder_locost hidden in the ceiling - sound deadened - etc. The drop down aluminum light is ikea I have 4 and can only use 2 (garage door)

stainless steel backspash (scraps) and commonly used pliers and cutters @ the side  - the box is a torin off of kijiji for $500

42"  toshiba Regza with built in DVD player (old school)  also has center channel above it and hook up for desktop.  I will put my drill press and an additional vise on this bench

used beer fridge from local forum - Stealthmode sold seperatley

what you can't see - my bandsaw - cherry picker  and in the mail a bead roller....  Gettin there.

PS sandblaster - on sale currently for $175 @ Princess auto

Brought my corvair home on sunday , my isetta is already here and the fiero is coming on thrusday - still have lots of room... my GS450 is in the basement

safe in the other garage

I like how you finished the back of your garage. I have a big ass workbench (4'x11') I want to cut to allow me to add a tool box similar to yours. In fact the final result will be similar, but I just don't know yet how I will cut it to make either a long work bench or 2 small work bench. Good job sir!

The fucker in question:

I like the tv in the wall. Never got that ambitious with my garage. Best I had back in the day was a commodore 64 monitor hooked up to my VCR ontop of my toolbox.

BLOW IT IN ME!!!

Insulated my attic - got the machine from rona - 20 bags of the cellulose - and really fuckin dusty.. Did enough that it's an R40 factor - maybe overkill but I like to be toasty.  Just need to run the main power wire and this biach is ready to party in.
