Bankruptcy does not necessarily spell the end for GM, under Ch.11 They reorganize debt, therefore it could allow them to slip out from several creditors, unuions, gov, and other obligations.

Hilarious.  A scheme to take the bailout money and run, I surmise.

Gm will be owned by the government this time next year. No matter what they do they wont be able to come back in a recession that will last through Obama's 4 year term.

You cant fix 20 years of bad management and hope for the best. You can do every trick in the book no one is going to spend 30K+ on cars when unemployment #'s rise and have no sign of stopping. Who knew you still needed blue collar workers. Oh well we can all work at wal mart

These intake manifolds are usually kept in stock in most parts stores. Made by a company called dorman designed to control that issue. P/N 615-180

When I was working at a Checker store I would sell one of these mani. a week for 5 years.
I would have customers totally amazed that I knew about their problems with these manifolds.

But to be fair we also stock the plastic and aluminum mani. for the LTD/Crown Vic. 4.6l engines another failure prone intake but for different issues.

As for GM being own by the gov't I doubt that.  Just remember the Federal Gov't could even run a whore house in Nevada awhile ago.

They claimed for years that this issue only effected the supercharged Grad Prix's.  Last fall my girl's GP SE burned down from this, and only liability. She got fucked over.

Anymore unless it's a GM LS motor or a Dodge Hemi motor, I don't think the motors really differ from eachother. Used to I'd see that and say FUCKING FORD just like the Ford cruise control issue they had. But these days it's all about cutting corners and money. Fuck them all cause I can't afford a Hemi or a Chevy LS motor. Old school shit is the way to go.

I think all cop cars need to have turbo. nbspnbsp Then they would understand the necessity of putting your foot down and how uncontrollable the urge is to fucking rail on that shit.

But to be fair, Ford also cleaned up that engine although it took them ~6 years to do so - GM would never consider improving one of their designs.  Those things were headgasket blowing piles of dogshit when they first came out.

one of my friends worked at a machine shop and he told me about the the 20 gm intake manifolds he would machine flat every week, at least gm is consistent in their designs to fail.

What would really suck with one of the grand prix's is for someone who has an attatched garage to their home. Her's started on fire 5-10 minutes after she parked it where she worked, which is apparently fairly normal for how they burn down.   Imagine your home burning down because of that shit.

I wonder how many cars are actually effected by this. I know in the lumnias and montecarlos the 3.8 is an optional motor most came with 3.1s or 3.4s

Are you that fucking stupid?  IT'S A GM.  These cars are six years old at the newest, less than half that figure are still on the road.

No I'm not that stupid.

I was including the broken cars due to GM being sued by previouse owners of GM cars that had these problems and had their cars burn up. ;D

Yes, suing is a fantastic idea.  Are we forgetting that GM is/has been a multi-billion $ company?  I don't even want to think about what kinds of lawyers they have that would be more than happy to twist this case up and make it the owners fault in some way.
