AEM 30-6310 software help
« on: December 11, 2011, 02:16:53 AM »

Ok I got talked into getting a '98 AWD Eclipse Turbo running.

Here is the setup:

7bolt 4g63 w/
Eagle crank and rods
HKS 272 cams
16G large turbo
63385 precision 880cc inj. (customer supplied info., could not corroborate)
Fuel Lab FPR
AEM 3.5bar map sensor wired in.

The car ran on DSLink (or something like that)
The original ECU fried with this setup.
So according to the customer the who setup ran before his ecu fried.
The ECU was not repairable so he got this box.

Using AEM Tuner ver. 2.9

AEM 30-6310 new.

Mechanical timing is dead on.
Coil packs work and see a very strong spark with plus and wies hooked up.
Compression is 150psi +/- 1psi
Fuel pump does kick on for 2 sec.
Plugs are getting wet with fuel.

Used the first map on this page :http://forum.aempower.com/forum/index.php/topic,26430.0.html

6310 2G Eclipse 3.5Bar MAP 550cc injectors.01v12.cal

Got the EMS software from here: http://forum.aempower.com/forum/index.php/topic,17194.0.html

Installed the software and then updated to 2.9 ver.

I tried to attach some files on calibrations made before I had this project dropped in my lap.

All I can get is the damn thing back fire a couple times.

The customer told me he had changed the firing order to pre-95 firing order.

So using http://www.dsmlink.com/wiki/swapplugwires I tried both sparkplug wire setups.

So I need some ideas to figure this car out.

I can send a copy of the last calibration used to anybody want to look at it.

The customer was told that driver for for ignition was corroded to much and that is what caused it to fail.

Sort of like the caps in Honda ECUs popping and frying anything near them.  :noel:

Read the 6310's instruction manual on how to set ignition timing.

http://forum.aempower.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=21539.0;attach=6314

With the firing order being fiddled with the startup calibration AEM provides is completely out of time, and that's why you are backfiring.  Since you've probably halfway gassed the oil fooling with it, disable the injectors first... something you need to be aware of on those.  Also, make sure BOTH the coil and injector firing order is right under the ignition and injector phasing tabs since the firing order has been changed.

Can I buy the burned up old AEM?

I think you mis-read. Looks to me that the DSM ecu burned up so he got the AEM.

Sounds like the way I've had them behave every time firing order or timing is WAY off, that and a semi dead CAS that wold not sync correctly on the MS. It would only spark occasionally and at odd positions.

Found Coil #1 is dead, even though last week it was firing.

I can get the car to 450rpms with two cyl.

Replace coil tomorrow and then back to it.   :noel:

Verify that your coil dwell settings are correct for the coils you are running.

Pull a couple spark plugs.  Does the ground strap have a cylindrical build up where the spark hits it?

Also, did the owner have the 7 bolt girdle pinned, or did he deliberately build a crankwalker because he's fucking dumb as shit?

Before I forget:

Using the dwell setting of what is listed in the setup wizard.

Sparkplugs have no build up, new plugs.

Also, did the owner have the 7 bolt girdle pinned, or did he deliberately build a crankwalker because he's fucking dumb as shit?

It is fresh motor with forge internals along with new eagle crank. He said it was built for him by a local somewhat questionable "import tuner" :noel:

As far as I'm concern he wants the car running.   And he want to push his car with a 20g and new manifolds and break 600awhp.

I asked you if the unpinned 7 bolt girdle had been pinned to the block, or if it was going to come apart shortly after 300whp, and you have NOT answered my question.

Just got paid for the work.  :noel:

To find out the issue was his ignitor/module for the coil pack.

We replaced with a used and I got the AEM computer to work.

A little rough but it works.

Told the customer and he wondered if his old ECU would work.

And it ran with a little of a roughness to it.

Paid me and the shop for five hours of work.

And drove the car home, which is interesting because he still has the 3.5bar map with the stock ecu.

He said he is running out of money fixing the car for a while.

He said he'll get the car tuned fully on the AEM Computer when he takes it down to Denver to a shop that has AWD dyno.

It sux to be him,  he spent approx. $2500 on a ignition module fix.  :noel: :noel:

That's what happens when you don't check what went wrong, build everything around it, then expect it to fire up. At least you profited from his lack of foresight.
