New Daily Driver - Volvo 850R

Picking this up tomorrow for 1K. Dude hit a deer, the shop told him 4K to fix it so he said fuck it I guess. It needs a hood, grill, headlights and headlight trim.

Anyone know anything about these? I did some research and didn't find anything bad. Should be a pretty sweet driver. Wiki says 250 hp  :noel:. I guess these were only offered with an auto in the states. The previous owner of this one converted it to a 5 speed.

Lots of info there. It's a T3-flange inlet (usually with a circular indent), so if you can fab & fit a custom DP you can run many t3 turbos. $1k is tits for that, and it's already a 5spd. Good find.

he could swap an auto to 5speed, but couldnt put a hood and a headlight on the car?

Sounds like my brother in-law. He is working on a phd in chemistry. I was plumbing my hot tub heater and he was talking about what the chemicals are doing and shit, but if I asked him to plumb the heater he wouldn't have a clue.

dump a set of chinese h-beams in it, throw a 50 trim on it (or your flavor of similar sized turbo), get a turbo tuner ECU, rock out with 400whp (stock pistons are good to around 500whp according to the swedes)

Looked up the Ecu and they are claiming it takes it to 285 HP. I took it down the road and it scoots pretty fucking good.

I bet it also sounds terrifying in the way that only an inline-5 can.  Nice pickup, regular 850 body parts should bolt right up to it if you are looking to just get it looking presentable again quick.  Then again the difference with the R was most likely just the bumper and grille in the front.  Its not like the 780 I saw for sale that "only needed a tail light" (a tail light that would be stupidly difficult to find).
