overpowering the tires is hardly the point. a geo metro can lock up the tires. the whole point is modulation. being able to control the brake pad clamping force to clamp as much as possible without locking up the tires.

No the whole point is being JDM AS FUCK and the fact that I picked it up wicked cheap. LOL I needed to change the shoes anyways.

Unless you plan on doing 30 minute enduro's on Hoosier A6's, the small brakes will be find with proper pad selection.

SCCA ITA/ITB/ITC classes all make due for 30-45 minute races on REAL tracks.

You need itr 5 lug swap and brakes. You're doing it wrong. Lol

here is a very simple bigger brake conversion which i have on my 90 std civic hatch.. and it will fit on any civic from 88-95 that i know of cause i have done it to other cars also.... it gives you the use of 10.2 in rotor and bigger calpier to use... compared to the normal 240mm or 9,5 in rotor which comes on all 88-91 civic or crx

you take the knuckle, rotor, caliper from a 1990 honda civic sedan lx model.... must be the lx sedan model and its a very easy swap.... took me 2 hours to do... take off from sedan in junk yard and put on my car. i love the braking power and it was a cheap swap

88-91 LX has the same small 240mm/9.3" brakes as your STD HB.

OP thinking of the ex sedan, And good luck finding a set for under 250$ from someone who knows what they are. I got those knuckles and da rear disks for 200$ out of my local yard.

I also find it hard that you notice a difference in braking power because you never mentioned a prop valve swap. Just putting on the knuckles and not the MC/prop valve will just give you a mushy pedal you have to push harder

First post
So today I pulled a set of 01 teg rear disc/ 1" m.c. /booster and 40/40 prop valve for $150.

I just got into a collision with my EX on Friday and it was the other drivers fault so if they try to total Im telling them I want to keep the car. Brake problem solved

Ok here's the UK way:

IF you have a VT

Cheap/Secondhand route, Parts used were:
Rover 623gsi single piston calipers
Rover ZS180 discs
623 pads

PLEASE CHECK THE ABOVE LIST - 623 DISKS DONT FIT

IF you have a VT and you are loaded (break Wink )!!
New MGZS180 calipers
New MGZS180 disks
New Pads

Total around £5/£600


IF you have a 16v

Then you will require CRX Vtec front hubs AND Track Rod Ends as well. (this converts 16v front setup to match the VT). This is obviously in addition to the upgrade parts as listed above



The calipers are a perfect bolt on fit - but they sometimes need a 2mm spacer between the carrier and the caliper - this places the caliper in the correct position as the ZS discs have a 2mm difference in offset (VT's do not need this spacer only Rovers!)
The caliper itself needs a quick "clean" with an angle grinder - as the 623 discs are 2mm thinner than the ZS discs and WILL just "touch" if driven hard or overheated. Just take a very small amount from the caliper where the disk may contact.
This fits perfectly ! - and will fit under Rover 15" alloys with no clearance problems
The Calipers bolt up using the original bolts, and the ZS disks look much much bigger then the std items. As a bonus the 623 pads are much larger than the std CRX pads - so there is a much better surface area contacting the disk.

The 623 calipers work, as do the 620ti, some 620 autos come with the 282mm discs too - but I looked at 3 over the weekend - and they were all 262mm Sad

BE SURE TO SPECIFY MGZS180 282mm Disks - as ZS120 disks are 262mm and are the same as the CRX VT


And here's another way:

ill post pics up asap, no these have been done to fit the 16v crx's no hub changes. the reason they are on 282mm discs is because the mounts the caliper sits on will not allow 300mm discs. the discs are been supplied and there brand new also the pads are also brand new. the s2000 calipers have been refurbished and all seals replaced with new ones.

 



how much have you machined them?
i've the same setup on my 16v but i use corrado disks.
mg ones will fit better and let me gain some more space between caliper an rim

approx 1mm as this all mine needed to fit, there is a recess on the s2000 calipers and i just machined down to this so it does not affect the caliper strength of the body.
i did machine the carrier 1mm as well as the inside edge of the caliper, i got the carrier machined at a enginering shop as i did not want to do this myself as it has to be the exact same amounts on both sides.

11.8" fronts are too big unless you upgrade the rear AND have gumballs for tires. Plus they won't fit under 15" rims. THe prelude/mini combo will fit under stock 15" alloys, and the machined prelude/dx/10.4" combo will fit with 14" rims.

There's also the fact 11.8" are much heavier, more than you think since it's rotating mass. It's also sprung mass, which fucks with your suspension a bit.

THe prelude/mini combo will fit under stock 15" alloys, and the machined prelude/dx/10.4" combo will fit with 14" rims.

Doing something like this on my eg and later my crx, except dual piston GS sedan calipers.  :noel:

Car (EG HB) was under 2000 lbs without driver, even with monster H22 on boost.

Then again those type of brakes are needed when slowing down from 175-180 mph.
