Where's this fucking water coming from?
« on: February 10, 2012, 11:46:48 PM »

95 Civic 4 door.  I keep getting water in the trunk.  I've pulled the pannels and the water is coming in from here:

It just seems to seep in.  The tail light gaskets are fine, and when I pull out the housings the gaskets are dry.  I tried to spray some rubberized undercoating, but it rained before it got set up good.  Any guesses?

My store (Homeboy Depot) started selling the gutter seal stuff in a can, it actually works. Stays slightly pliable like underbody tar, not sticky, and stays where you spray. $10 a can isn't cheap, but it works like the stuff shown on TV.

If you use foam, use a closed-cell foam. Others can still leak water through them, especially if there's any flex and tearing.

New trunk lid weatherstrip..?

This is my thought as the corners have been rtv'ed down before.  The strip looks good, no cracks and the rubber is in decent shape, but I think I'm gonna go over what someone had previously done before with fresh and see what happens.

If thagt doesn't fix it, then the flex seal shit it is because clearly rubberized undercoating isn't the same thing, lol

I used both of them on the Protegé. Works perfectly! Btw, Flex Seal (maybe not that brand, but similar product) exists in different material.

You have the asphalt one that you can't really paint and stays soft for a long time and you have the rubber version that you can paint afterwards.

If you do it inside a garage, take the asphalt one unless it's a small area because the rubber version has a very toxic smell (contact glue smell) and you'll get buzzed pretty fast (experience).

Asphalt is cheaper too...
