i want to install a rear mounted turbo. im not looking for too much boost. i have a few newbie questions.

can i have the air from the turbo injectect right after the air filter?
can i have the turbo turn on and off?
for a rear  mounted system do i do it before or after the muffler?
whats a good turbo to use? i dont want a lot of boost, just a few psi to help with combustion, i dont want to blow up my motor on the freeway.

any help would help. thanks in advance.

1. the air filter will be on th eturbo and not by the intake
2. no, if you want it off just try and cruise with less load on the engine
3. the muffler will be right after the turbo

but why would you want a rear mounted turbo? what are the benefits?

well im a newbie, so what are the benfits of having it in the enginge bay? i know there are not alot of room in there.

1. if all im doing is taking exhast gas why not do it from under the car/truck. esp on a truck there is alot of room on the underbody, plenty of place to mount the turbo. the intake side would be be pulling alot cooler air.

2. by running the intake air after the air filter it still goes thru the cars air system so less messing with the cars electronics right? map sensors etc etc

if its in the engine bay then its less lag, less piping, less headache of routing oil lines and hooking up oil pumps and shit. ive never seen the point unless it is completley neccassary, maybe im just missing something about the whole thing.

if you turbo your car your not going to have a air intake under the hood anymore, its going to be on the turbo under the rear of the car and im not sure you will have to mess with th ecars electronics, well except for fuel managment.

one guy one here did it pretty nicely.  cant remember if it was a lexus or infinity.  years ago.  put it before the muffler

well then the air that is coming from your turbo, where would you normally route it so that it gets back into the engine? i was thinking of putting it after the orginal air filter that way it passes thru the mass air sensor.

from what i hear there is no lag time. and yes u may have to rig some oil pumps but im sure its easier that trying to work in the engine bay...

it goes through your intercooler then straight into your intake manifold, YOUR STOCK AIR FILTER IS NOT GOING TO BE THERE lol. sorry just wanted to make sure you read that this time.

if you look through the pictures you can pretty much get the idea of where everythign goes and what goes where

You need to go to the Forced Induction section and start reading.
1. Learn how to make a proper Newb post and then make one
2. learn the Basics of how a turbo setup works
3. Once you understand how things work then start asking questions

There are so many things you need to think about. Are you using a Karmen Vortex (sp?) MAF or a hot wire, will it even register boost. How are you going to get oil to the turbo. How are you going to get fuel to the motor properly. i suggest you stop right now before a real OG sees this and starts tearing you too pieces for your epic failiure and complete lack of respect. Read the stickies and LEARN! We reward learning and asking intelligent well thought out questions here [and porn]. There is alot of learning and knowledge that can happen here but you have too show some effort first.

in a rear mounted setup the turbo replaces the muffler.  You have lots of homework to do.  Some questions may need to be answer because they might not be easily found....but since you have a little idea of whats going on...

Learn then buy.

Rear mounted turbo's are as bad as ppl make them out to be.  They can offer HP gains, but at the same time, if someone wanted it from ur truck, they would just need a saw-zaw to remove it from your truck.

not only that but you had better build a pretty damn good airbox to keep water from going into the air filter on a rainy day.

E-cutout before the turbo should do the trick, but you motor will have to work hard in order to suck air in from the rear of the car without the turbo spinning, unless you put another valve/cutout on the intake pipe as well which might be prone to boost leaks.You can also probably find a way to keep the BOV open all the time when e-cutout is open to bypass turbo.
This is all a lot of extra money and work for no gain. If you're trying to turbo a car, use the damn turbo then.
