Computer trouble FML. HELP ME
« on: April 23, 2009, 05:25:53 AM »

so today I finally got off my lazy ass and reformatted my hard drive only to find out that my pc (ONCE AGAIN) comes with no sound driver. This happened last time when we first got the computer.(on that note who the fuck doesn't factory install a sound driver?) well I went to the website and downloaded the stock sound driver only to find out that the piece of shit doesn't work.

It will go to restart and then when it restarts its doesn't run or start up. It appears in my program files but doesn't work.

of course that could be every time my computer goes to restart it will ask me what to boot off of. It will say

Windows xp Home edition
Windows xP Home edition
Windows xp Home edition

wtf?  :?: why the hell is there three windows xp home editions on my pc? I always select the first one.

I could care less about the 2nd problem i just want sound on my pc. somebody give me a driver that WORKS for gods sakes

I am running 2 harddrives

comp is a Emachines t5052

good luck man, i got a crazy fucking virus right now. been trying to get rid of the damn thing for a week.
i'm getting ready to call it quits and post a help me thread here.

killbox.net

and

http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html

Use Hijack this to find where that bastard is hiding and then use the killbox to kill it on start up.

after youve killed it download lots of virus killer programs like Malwarebytes Spybot search and destroy Ccleaner and defraggler to keep your comp running clean.

also book this website
http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/

yes. I use them all.

well i found out why. we have 2 copies of windows xp. (one we lost the cd key to) and this comp came with another copy on it. I did the quick format instead of the FULL format so now it thinks it has 3 different ones.

I am off to completely blank my drive yet again.

why would you expect the driver to be on there if you just reformatted? there isnt 1 driver for all audio devices.
try this
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4687166/Uniblue_All_2009_SoftWare_Including_Serials_REZMAN1984.7z
the driver utility works perfectly for my crazy setup

Quick format deletes everything just like a full format :P  So, not sure what happened there.

Anyway, I had trouble with my sister's Dell laptop before because the sound driver WOULD NOT install.  Tried the Dell driver and the one from the manufacturer for the chipset.  Both would say compatible hardware not found.  Turns out, I had to do a registry edit to make Windows report it was SP2 instead of SP3, and the file magically worked.

Utterly retarded that nothing changed except Windows lied and said it was SP2, and then the driver installed...

Is your soundcard onboard or in a PCI slot?

Like said, you did not format the hard drive. You just added another copy of windows onto your HD. Delete the partition, make a new one and then do a quick format, unless you want to wait for ~1 hour for full format. PC will be much quicker and cleaner that way. It's like starting with a clean new paper to do math on instead of already used up one with tons of work on it.
What is the model and brand of your computer. I can get a driver for you that will work. Usually it's either realtek ac'97 if it's an older PC, if it's newer than most of the time it its Realtek HD drivers.

BTW: This is  very simple, it's not like modifiyng a 32bit driver to power on a device in 64 bit windows. 32bit windows is fucking easy with the drivers.

No, you can pick which one you like and delete the other two startup options in msconfig.  :)

If in device manager, there's an exclamation point next to audio device then,
Go here:
http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Click I agree bullshit, Next
Download the ZIP version for XP. (In green, second one down)
Extract files
Run the setup.exe inside that folder, restart computer. You now should have sound.

If not, then got to System Properties->Hardware Tab->DeviceManager
Right click audio device, update drivers
Browse for the driver, navigate it to the extracted folder. See if it will install.

If not then you're probably missing Microsoft UAA bus driver for high definition.
Download it here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32646.exe (I know it's HPs website, but fuck. Its the same shit)

Post a screenshot of you device manager if it still doesn't work after all of the above.

oh and heres another problem i am having  >:(

that first fan speed is ALWAYS at 4116 rpm. even on start up. and the second one will never dip below 2500 rpm

i have the same program on my parents comp and theres runs at about 1-1500 rpms.

the program has a way to clock it but you have to know your motherboard. I know mine but its not listed on there so there is no way to clock it.

To open the device manager, go to My Computer, then View System Information, then click on the hardware tab on the top, then click on device manager. This is my Vista device manager, XPs should look very similar. Not the fingerprint scanner driver is not installed so it has a yellow exlcamation mark. LMK, screenshot it.

Did you try the UAA bus driver install first? and then the audio?

Go onto that screen again (device manager)
Right click Multimedia Audio Controller
Update driver
Yes, this time only connect to whatever, next
Install for a list or specific location (advanced), next
Check the box that's labeled "Include this location in the search" and navigate/browse to the extracted realtek folder, select WDM folder if there is one inside of realtek one, next.
watch it install, if it doesn't you're doing something wrong. If a message pops up asking to continue, click continue installation or some shit like that.

Report back what happens.

You also need to download and install video card driver, chipset driver, and PCI modem driver. They're all on the manufacters website. I bet you computer lags like shit right now.
