Final Exams
« on: April 24, 2009, 04:22:33 PM »

Suck. I hate finals with a passion. Pulled an A in EE Systems and was exempt from that one though. Still got a 93 in thermo II going into that final, 88 in Calculus 4, middle B in mechanics of materials, and a fucking 68 D in differential equations. And this is my second time taking diff. eq. Gotta study my ass off for that final as I need a middle C or better on the final to get a C overall.

Yeah. I have to take all of my finals a week early, FSAE competition in Detoilet is that week :(

I've got an A so far in all of my classes - Case Studies in Modern Thermo, Adv. Mechanism design and Engineering Statistics. I had an easy semester w/ only 3 engineering classes though.

I write my last one in half an hour and then I'm getting fucked up with the few buddies that are still here since it's the last day of finals.

What kills me is how much shit we have to memorize in DE. Any of my engineering classes you're expected to learn the material and how to apply it. Formulas are given, but you have to know what to do with them to take what's given and use what you know to solve the problem. DE you have to memorize everything. You bring a pencil or pen to the test, nothing else. Not even a calculator.  :-\

After DE twice and fianlly a B in the class sucks. ;D

I'm looking forward to taking thermo II and Circuits. Mech. of Mtrls. was an easy A with a HP50g calculator.  ;D

I got a Chemistery exam this morning (yeah I'm in software engineering ).  Was pretty easy, I was surprised. I

Our average at École Polytechnique de Montréal in an exam is ~50% so with your 68, you can get a nice score ;) Btw its because the exams are impossible to do, not because we are stupid lol  I got 60% overall in Equa diff and I have a C+. To see what our exam look like go to MIT website in opencourse section, pretty much like that.

I usually don't study for my exams, but I'm happy, I studied an average of 2 day per exam! lol

The last exam is april 30th and I'm done! "Software testing and verification" ... 6 days to study, I'll start 29th probably ;)

Were do you study? I study there : http://www.polymtl.ca/en/

Is it the Laplace transforms? The class seems pretty easy even for the little effort i put into it, but then i must have an easy instructor.

Yes, Laplace transforms suck. It's not a hard class, it really ain't. I can do most of this stuff. But I can't remember all formulas and shit. And my instructor is an asshole foreign teacher.

We are given a formula sheet with most of the rules, so its only a matter of applying them. But there are some techniques we are supposed to memorize. Looks like you got shafted a bit.

Yeah I'm working through a bunch right now. Using the formulas is pretty straight forward for the most part. Last test in there I made a 45 cause he gave me 0 credit on a few that I actually remembered the formula for, but didn't explicitly state that "hey, I'm applying second translation theorem here" as if it's not fucking obvious. Get the right answer, get 0 credit. And this was our 3rd test and he waits till now to decide we need to state whenever we apply a rule or theorem to solve a problem?  :?: Thought showing my work was good enough.  ::)

I've had bad experiences with Chinese instructors. When i took trig, i solved some of the problems using proportions, not the formulas he wanted us to use and of course was docked points for that. It was the only time i got a B in math as well.

Anyway GL on the final. My finals are in 3 weeks so i still have to learn stuff.

Sounds like you guys are into the math heavy, farthest I went was calc 2. But being that I was a bio major that was more then most bothered with. Now I study about 4-6 hours a day to pull B's and sometimes A's if the stars line up correctly C's if they don't. I have the USMLE step1 coming up at the end of June. I will be a much happier person once that is behind me.

What??? Only time you got a B? Lol. Wish I could get B's in all my math classes. Got a C in cal one and two, B in cal 3, F in cal 4, but retaking it now and have a high B/ might pull an A we'll see. You must be one of those smart fellers or something. I'm just a dummy pretending to be smart.

lol i'm only doing up to Cal 3 and DE on the math side. Plus i may be decent in math/physics but when it comes to government or history, or even FACS (family stress and coping) i can't pull a decent grade.

Yeap. Though I try to do better, but it's tough. Oh well, I'd rather struggle, get C's, and get my degree than do nothing, get nothing, and have a shitty job the rest of my life.

In California due to the overcrowding of schools C's will basically mean you will never get the courses you need. The Cal State system is a failure like the rest of the state. I started to go back to school last year and was just horribly turned off by what was going on. Half the shit I was being taught I already do. I have already designed automotive parts that work and have lists of more to come.

So if your some Rich kid who doesnt have to work etc you will get the courses you need. If you work etc and Pull B's/C's like I did through school you will wait semesters to get one class you need. Anyone wonder why California is in the shitter?
