I just rebuilt a 22R 4runner engine and cant get it running. Before anyone says anything. I'm not a noob to engines. I built many B and D series honda engines in the past.
The timing is set according to the haynes manual. Cam set with gear pin pointing up 12 o'clock. crank pulley with timing mark at 0. Distributor rotor at cyl#1.
I am getting fuel, I am getting spark. One thing I am not sure if is if my injector wires are mixed up or not. Unfortunetly the wiring diagram in the haynes manual for this car really sucks and is poorly described. I wish it was like the 92-95 civic manual, would been a lot easier to read the schematics.
anyway firing order is 1,3,4,2 now the haynes manual says the cylinder layout is 1,3,4,2 as from front to back. shouldn't it be 1,2,3,4 like any inline 4 cyl. Just wondering if this could be a typo.
When I turn the key it turns over and after a while it does something wierd, the engine will make this "choke" sound and put a major load on the starter and I see my battery gauge go all the way down, sort of sounds like it just inhaled a bunch of liquid and the engine slows, then it keeps turning normally and repeats this choking sound. Is it being flooded?
This is what leads me to think that my injector wires are messed up, the harness on this car is wierd there are 3 blue injector clips and one gray. they are not numbered though.
Does anyone have any guesses as to whats going on? maybe where I can find a proper wiring diagram for this truck. its a 1995 4runner 22r motor.
