rHMT Filter Velocity Stack
« on: May 02, 2009, 02:35:55 PM »

I'm thinking about making my own velocity stack/base for a K&N cone filter. Bottom line is I want a 4" inlet filter for a possible 4" inlet turbo, but have 3" atm. I just can't find shit for bushings, nor do I have space for normal reducers. The 4" K&N's also have a size selections for my current space restrictions, as my topmount puts it right where a Civic's PS reservoir normally sits.

I'm thinking about using a section of 3" and 4" aluminum tubing, with 1/2" alum TUBE as the rounded part...Devcon'd together (JB weld for alum), ends flared & smoothed out. Anyone every try an idea like this?? (red by tubes is the devcon)

This is the filter I plan on using if anyone cares

I was wondering about making velocity stacks for a ITB setup myself and I was wondering about Devcon or some other Aluminum epoxy.

Or is there a cheap source for velocity stacks?

I remember reading something about an idea velocity stack design.

Something about taking the dia. of throat D.

Then flair the edges out along radius D.

And end up with a total dia. being 3*D.

I read that in Maximum Boost by Corky Bell (best turbo book ever )

I found this link a while back, has some cheap v-stacks, appears to be nice quality too:

I'm looking to make it more of a bushing, so I don't have to buy a seperate 3" and 4" filter. I do have a Holset HE351VE with a big 4", just not sure when I'll use it.
