Oxy/acel torch welding thread.
« on: May 06, 2009, 12:55:53 AM »

Most people think "cutting torches" are just for cutting. Think the fuck again. I have passed many welding cert tests and I am also self taught. The reason I was able to do this is because my fundamentals are sound. I learned how to weld in my garage with a set of oxy/acel torches.

The cheapest set of torches will make better welds than the cheapest flux core wire feed welder ever will all for the same price. Wana weld aluminum? torches can do this(cheap ass wire feeds cannot). Wire feed cant cut.

In my welding class im taking, we had to start off oxy-acel torch welding. It's the best procces to learn first, and if you're a pro at gas welding, learning to TIG weld will be a piece of cake.

Here's my catch can that was the first thing I made in the welding class. Fuck Rick P
I'm probably going to end up tapping this thing with huge fitting and putting a new bracket on, since 1/2 a year later my fabricating skills are much better.

When I was cleaning out my garage, I found some of my original weld test strips, from ~10 years ago. All oxy fuel welded. If I remember when I get home I will snap some pics.

If you can oxyfuel weld, you can tig weld. Same basic heat control principles.

I've done some brazing, and tried welding, but haven't really taken the time to practice. On a side note I have a Harris fuel regulator my neighbor was about to trow out. Just need to get a couple more things and I'll be all set....

Im actually going to work with that catch can setup tomorrow. I'll cut off those two pipes at the top, and weld up the holes. The tap one of the side near the bottom with some larger barb/hose fittings that will go to the back of the block, and two more smaller fitting for the valve cover. ;D
