i need vehicle importing knowledge
« on: November 06, 2012, 05:07:24 AM »

ok heres the deal.  There is a mid 90's toyota hilux crew cab 4x4 with a 3.0 diesel that i can get my hands on for dirt cheap.  Heres the problem, it was brought here without going through customs (dont ask).  Pretty much there is no paper work saying how the truck got here, no title, no bill of sale, nothing.  How the fuck can i get this thing legal!  Im half tempted to buy a toyota chassis to steal the vins/title and register it as a truck.  I would like to have it legitimately done though.

It's a state by state basis.  SC or FL, for example, don't give a shit if it doesn't have an American VIN.  Here in NC you'd get laughed at or cuffed, depending on how sandy the title officer was feeling.

I would just be afraid of getting caught.  Anyone who has a slight grasp of cars
will know it's not a Tacoma

Or just use a pre tacoma vin??? From 90-97? They had the same body as the hilux, lots of them out there.

Even better get one of those trucks and swap the cool bits of the hilux over, and then have a lhd version of the hilux.
