F22 into a Fiero
« on: March 02, 2013, 05:04:35 PM »

I very good friend of mine died a few years ago and left behind a 1985 GT Fiero.  He always wanted to swap the motor and make it fast.  His family is moving and offered to give it to me.  My accord is fucked.  There is something fucked up in the dash harness and I don't feel like fixing it.  The accord is starting to get real junky looking, and spinning the front tires gets more lame every time I do it.  So I'm thinking that Its time to start on my next project.

my Accord:
The videos were shot before I put it on the dyno, running a street tune @ about 15 psi
Turbo Accord F22b runs at piedmont drag way.
Turbo Accord @ 15 psi Vs modded Evo

I was thinking of using the $16 digital anything gauges or something similar and making a custom dash with my CNC.  I will be using the honda ECU.

Do it, anything would be a serious improvement over the original GM drivetrain offered in those.  :noel:

A guy back home has one with a GN GNX motor in the back. If it ends up anything near that it will be a damn blast.

My friend has a 3.4l quad-cam with a big turbo, but has nothing but trans problems with it. I've also seen some V8 northstar swaps among others. I think a turbo F22 would be great, I'd just be concerned about the trans. There's a lot more stress in a mid-engine app vs fwd, especially when you have gumballs that hook.

BTW what's your rod/piston combo?

looks like your #1 piston is in your #4 hole on the motor build. Not that that matters, but i too believe the trans will shit itself with any real power/tq.

I put that #1 on the piston long before it was installed.  I think I marked them on the rod when I got around to installing them.

I have a dsm stroker piston/ h22 rod combo.

This idea kicks ass.

I've wanted a fiero with something sacrilegious swapped into it for a while.  Should end up with a fun as shit to drive trailer park ferrari that actually starts every day, hauls ass, and pisses off the american muscle guys.

On a side note, I'd assume that the cable-shifter would be easier to make work in the fiero than a linkage.

You can just rotate the cable shifter.

If you face the cables on the trans the opposite way (heading to the front of the car instead of the rear), that means when you move the 180*-rotated shifter it moves like it does in the accord. Both sideways motions and f-r motions make the trans shift properly. Same 5-spd H-pattern.

You could also do an F2B and use a linkage. Some guy on hater-tack did a mid-engine crx and made a linkage go under the trans, up, and backwards to the linkage pin behind the tranny. A reversed cable setup sounds fairly easy though, lengths would be the only concern.

So I cant think of any reason not to go ahead and swap to a bigger turbo if I'm making a new manifold and setup.  Also I think I may have to fab a new IM  ;DDD

Ashbe had to add 25% fuel across the board when he swapped to a the OBX manifold.  He had the same issue with the F22 starting to choke up around 20 psi.  With more boost, torque started dropping off at lower and lower rpm's just like mine.

I'm guessing you'll have room behind the engine now, so I'd suggest something similar to an NA header feeding a turbo under/behind the intake manifold. That or a sidewinder type manifold, since there's a bit of room above the trans. My dream build would be a mid-engine with a compound turbo setup using an NA-style header feeding turbos behind the engine.

I'm getting exited, summer is getting close, and I am about to start making some money with my cnc.  hopefully Ill have time and cash to make this car a beast over the summer.

I have been thinking bout the axle.  The track width is just about identical on the fiero and accord, so Ive been thinking that I will use the accord axles and upright, and make a arms.  The stock fiero suspension sucks, I don't want to use that.

My POS truck spun a bearing so now I have decided to fix the honda,

Might be running again this weekend!

The fiero will have to wait.  I'm thinking a turbo LS V8 might be more appropriate for the fiero anyways. I'm gonna be busting my ass to finish school this next year, so hopefully after that I have time and money to do it right.
