stock d15 best 200 whp turbo?
« on: May 11, 2013, 12:09:47 AM »

sorry guys i am not asking to be spoon fed im just having a hard time properly sizing a turbo.

i currently have a cast mani with t3 flange and was thinking about trying to find another tb0357 i think it was. that seemed like it had potential before i fried it on accident.

or i can make a adapter for my hf manifold to my gt17 but im afraid the gt17 wont have enough pull to redline or it wont be capable of producing 200whp.

any thoughts are appreciated

my goals are 185-200ish whp, and idk if it be possible in a del sol but break into the 13's on the 1/4. mind you i'd like to keep this cheap so a turbo that can be readily found at junkyard or on CL

YOU!  RODS!  OUT OF THE BLOCK, NOW!

Don't go past 180 on D15 rods.

pretty sure oczc has them for 99 shipped. id love to go with the internals and just push the big turbo i have now, but its not in the budget right now so im gonna stick with stock block for now with a nice lttle t3 or this gt17.

im finding it hard to see this little gt17 pulling to redline @7250 when it supposedly fully boosted by like 2500rpm's. over on DSO there are a couple people that got great results with these little turbo's, so i might just go with it.

unless i find another tb0357, it just looked so perfect on the motor and felt amazing the few times it seen boost @5psi before the turbo fried. ( my fault installed oil to the coolant port on accident )

Mike, you seem like a hell of a guy and a go getter.  We'd like to sponsor you with a set of custom D15 rods, but need to make sure you're 100% behind us.  If you could post pics of you holding an OCZC Tuning sign, and PM me the particulars of your setup, we can get the ball rolling.

Thanks.

im down, just a hand drawn sign or what? also if you got a sticker or 2 ill throw them on my del sol. i plan on hitting every car show/ race event i can this year after i get it boosted. probably will be boosted within the first week or so of june then tuned mid june. but if im gonna be building the motor i need to know now so i can get the other parts needed to support a high boost high hp d15 build.

Don't count on OCZC rods, lol. Stella keeps shipping the wrong rods...

The "40/48" 50-trim T3 turbo you're talking about is about the best turbo for the price on that D15. They'll do over 200whp if you push them, and spool really quick. Since you can't make much power on the stock D15 before it shits the bed, it's best to get a turbo that will beef up your low end. Someone else had a small MHI turbo on a small motor that was really nice, the dyno showed a huge powerband starting at 2500rpm or so. I just can't recall who or what turbo. The 40/48 will be the easiest to get going if you already have a t3 manifold.

Or build a JY Supercharge kit using a s/c off of a Previa, get a good tune.

Rock out 200whp when you need it.  :noel:

thanks for the info, i believe you might be reffering to scottdh20 from dso's d15beast7 build that consisted of the b7 and a garrett gt17. which i actually have one just need to rebuild it, i have several HF mani's so thats no biggie. just make a flange which i already made a template for if i do go that route.

My second one was free.

But normally if you go to a Junkyard and pull one they are about $100 or so.

On egay they are selling for $200 or more.

New ones are 850 to 3100 depending which place you by them.

Ogura Clutches TX15 out New Jersey has them.  :noel:
