Edjumacate me on gear ratios. B series turbo build
« on: August 09, 2013, 02:26:41 AM »

I have a few b gsr and b16 transmissions
Was planning on running a gsr on my sleeved 2.0 vtec motor going for 600 or 650

Just picked up a mint b16 with a quaife LSD and 4.7 final drive

Will this be too short?
I have 24.5" slicks on 13" Lensos

Should I throw a 4.4 final on this diff?
If I do should I use a b16 or gsr gear set?
(I think 1st would have to stay b16 because of the b16 main shaft right?)

Let me know your input or where to start reading

Thanks

Where do you want to be for mph in the traps? I would check the calculator and go from there. Play with tire size and fd ratio too. http://www.zealautowerks.com/transcalc.php

I remember talking to leed about his all motor b20 setup with a pretty nicely put together trans and he had it all layed out perfect to run through the traps at the top of 4th @ 112mph or so. Said he couldn't get past like 106mph in the top of forth and that left him shifting into 5th with like 100' of track left. Think it had a little to do with wind resistance. So he raisedrased the rev limit to 9500rpms to stay in 4th.

600hp in the right hands is a 9 second car. It takes roughly 150mph to run 9's. I would imagine an untouched b16 tranny would be too short.

In the b16 go with a L's 4.266 final and you will be okay for now or use the diff with ls final in gsr tranny even better

Anything over 500ish whp and slicks I would defantly be looking at a twin disk.

Well fuck me. Guess I'll stop at 5 or see how much a twin costs.

And everything is for sale if someone wants it. Just sold a b16 last night

Not that I'm experienced in it, but in all of my reading anytime you get to the 9.99 range it's time to start thinking twin disk. Singles can hold the power, but can't shift quick enough.

I could use an LS or GSR 5-R "assembly" if you have a spare!

I probably have an ls

Let me know when you get the chance- no big rush, but happy to send some monies if you've got it. I think its one of the last major things I need to do (fix the tranny) before I dive into the swap for the civic, but I'll be out of town until Nov 1 anyway.
