Walbro pumps coming to a local parts store near you.
« on: August 31, 2013, 06:13:40 PM »

Well one day I got bored at advance auto parts, friends worked there, and decided to start taking pumps out of boxes just to see the differences. Found one interesting box with a walbro in it, I didn't really think much of it then, this was 2009ish and google searches gave me no info so I never thought anything of it till yesterday when my pump died. I remembered finding that walbro pump in the airtex box and decided to look into it again.

Wouldn't you know apparently airtex doesn't make a pump big enough for 2000-2002 ford focus so I guess they get them from walbro and rebadge them.
Here's the specs and price
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_electric-fuel-pump-airtex_15770088-p#fragment-2
airtex part number e2448
I had a friend that worked there pick it up for $58 thanks to the 20% employee discount and just put it in my car. I tried calling walbro but apparently the head engineer is on vacation...I will dig deeper Tuesday. If this is not in the appropriate spot I'm sorry.

When I work in retail parts (Checker/Schuks/Kragen now O'riely's), when ever a parts store chain buy out another chain you will see reboxed fuel pumps.

This one of the reasons I'm very picky about what I buy at local parts stores.  :noel:

Just cause a pump says walbro, doesn't mean it flows a lot.

That's like finding a t25 on a parts store shelf and thinking "parts stores sell Garrett's, I'm building a race car"

Quite understandable. A lot of companies do this.

walbro makes oem replacements along with performance pumps...

Clearly as I found this in a airtex box at a parts store.

Just cause a pump says walbro, doesn't mean it flows a lot.

Lol I'm completely unaware of how much it flows, according to advances website it free flows 55-75gph at what psi I have no clue. I will be calling walbro about this particular pump Tuesday. I'm only using this pump till I can save up for a Poopra Denso pump.

Called walbro's sales department today and was told that there pump is made to ford's specs. I asked for actual flow numbers and was told that engineering would have all that information and that they were gone for the day, so I left my phone number and was told that they will call me back later today. In the meantime I did some more research and came across this pdf produced by kennebell circa 2003 flow testing cobra/svt focus/walbro pumps.
Heres the link

I'm only using this pump till I can save up for a Poopra Denso pump.

Which barely outflows - at low pressure differentials you won't be operating at - a Walbro 255HP that costs a fraction.

Isn't the standard practice to go walbro 255, if that's not enough 044, if that's not enough aeromotive? Am I missing any reasonable options in that list?

The new 300 series Walbros maybe? I haven't looked at what they cost lately.

Or two 255's. Or three.

Using a CDM version of the 300/340 lph works good so far. The only problem is the supplied fuel line to use between fuel hanger and pump is too weak.

The inlet opening is huge compared to the standard 225lph, bigger diameter pump body.  :noel:

I've heard good things about the 340s but not from anyone I really trust yet, nor in an application where a regular 255 wouldn't have worked.

I have a CDM 044 the grand wizard donated to my grm car. I haven't pushed it over 400hp, but haven't had any issues with the pump.

I have a CDM 255 overvolted to 17.5v in my flow bench. It works great considering I use a solvent that has less lube than pump gas.
