My sister has a gun, it's broken.
I'm wondering if any of you crazy gun guys might be able to help us fix it instead of taking it somewhere. She is paranoid to take her gun into a shop. The gun is legal and nothing illegal is going on.

The gun is a Colt .38 special revolver

When she got the gun back in '85 it worked great, our dad gave it to her when she got divorced cause her ex was crazy. My dad always took care of the gun for her till about 8 years ago when he moved 9 hours away. A year after he moved my sister took a gun safety class even though our dad taught us all when we were growing up. in the class she fired 2 rounds and then the gun jammed. the class instructor came over and unjammed it. she pulled the trigger, it shot, pulled the trigger again and the cylinder would not turn to fire the next round. they unloaded all the rounds and tried it unloaded. same thing happens. it will fire once, but won't turn the cylinder to fire the next round.
If you wiggle the cylinder or slightly pull the cylinder release then pull the trigger it will rotate the cylinder and fire the next round.
you can't even manually pull the hammer back to fire it cause the cylinder won't turn to load the next live round

So anyone have any idea what that could be.
seems like the cylinder release is causing the issue or possibly the cylinder itself.

Thing probably has under a dozen moving parts total.  If you can't figure out which of them isn't working properly, maybe you shouldn't screw with it, and should instead just hand someone who knows what they're doing some money.

Thing probably has under a dozen moving parts total.  If you can't figure out which of them isn't working properly, maybe you shouldn't screw with it, and should instead just hand someone who knows what they're doing some money.

if it were my gun then it would have been fixed by a shop a long time ago.
my sister is afraid of one of these two things happening.
someone steals it
or
they question why it's not registered to her and they make her register it.

Legally this gun does not have to be registered, but she is paranoid like most of you crazy gun guys on here.

the gun probably has less than a dozen moving parts, but I'm not a gun smith so I don't know which it might be. if someone said to replace the spring or what ever then I could do it, but I don't trust myself to take it apart and fix it without someone saying exactly what needs to be fixed.

My sister has more than one working firearm and she knows how to use them.
This one hasn't worked in a few years, but it didn't matter cause she had others she used.
We were talking about guns the other day and I told her I might know some guys that could help me fix it.

it shoots once without any problem. to fire another round you just need to wiggle the cylinder.
it's actually really easy and quick to fire every round. it's just not working correctly and she would like to get it fixed.

My sister won't let me take it apart unless she knows that I can fix it. She wants a professional to do it, but if I could say to her "it's this" then she might let me do it.

I figured someone here might have ran into a similar problem since a few of our active members are into guns.

it's kinda like the difference between a parts installer and a mechanic.
If someone here said yeah you need a new spring for the cylinder release, then I could say to my sister "look this is the problem and I can fix it" instead of "hey let me take your gun apart and see if I can figure it out"

However someone on a local forum is going to fix it for the cost of parts plus a 12pack.
Reminds me of something you guys would have done back in the day when I first joined HMT.

I'm glad to see some of the members on this site still care about helping others when they need help.

I agree man, but it's not my gun. it belongs to my sister and she doesn't want to risk something happening to it. it has a lot of sentimental value to her.
