So my pops has a 07 Chevy Silverado with a v6. 41,xxx miles. Starts up and runs just fine, then go to start it later and it won't turn over, and the radio don't work or the fuel/temp gauge, but the rest of the cluster lights up. If you unplug the fuse box under the dash for 5 min or so and plug it back in it will start up and run fine after a couple of min the radio will shut off but the truck still runs. Once you shut it off it won't fire back up unless you unplug the fuse box.

If its still got any semblance of a warranty, make it a dealership's problem.

Its in Alaska in the bush. Would need a 6 day trip to make it to the dealer....lol

Roller did it make half the gauges not work but power up the idiot lights still?

Thats actually an interesting thought. I had a Vw New beetle that one side of the ign switch shit out and half of the car wouldnt work, alot of the acc. and shit. I just tied into the good leg with a relay and a diode worked magic car is still on the road.

Yes, or kill power to the trans, or other things depending on which contacts burn out.

ECU drives half the gauges on the cluster. Loss of connection on the CANbus will do that... if the truck cluster displays a bunch of dashes in place of odometer readout, suspect ECU/power to ECU/something shutting down CANbus (radio).

BTW, I do not know if the tach/speedo/gas gauge/etc are actually driven across CAN, or have dedicated wires like earlier vehicles. Just a guess, as that would be how I dod things.

So more info.......

Left it running in the driveway for about 20 min (45* outside) came out and it was running hot 230*ish as soon as he started driving temp dropped to normal. But its bucking while driving and pinging. When he shuts it off it diesels.

He has a scan tool, and he said there is no codes. Its some high dollar scan tool that the city uses but he said it has no codes, but new problems keep poping up so ill see if he can run a scan on it again.

my dad has an 05 silverado with a v8 that had the same gauge and radio symptoms you are describing. I ended up doing an ignition switch, the cylinder part not the electrical part. The way I figured it out was by jiggling the key while the truck was running. I pulled it apart it visually saw it coming apart. Have them visually check the cylinder and the electronic part for anything that is suspect.

Slobbery injector, Chad?

Sounds like the key kills the fuel pump, and not the ECU. Motor stumbles as fuel pressure goes away.

Ok, so new stuff....... So he shuts the truck off and walks away. With no key In the ignition and the truck will start itself up and sit there and idle. He was able to get a code but it was p1682

Possible causes

- Faulty ignition switch
- Ignition Switch harness is open or shorted
- Ignition Switch circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

So the "genesis" code reader that they are using to read codes is saying the the bcm is fucked. Body control? Truck won't even start now.

Yep, body control module. Runs the gauges, etc.

If you get another one either the ECM or the BCM itself will have to be reprogrammed for the truck, IIRC.
