Wastegate placement advice needed on sinktrap manifold
« on: January 05, 2014, 03:59:13 PM »

As some of you know I'm in the process of making this manifold, I'm just unsure where to put the wastegate. Here's what I'm working with

This would be the ideal place for my wastegate, but as you can see the flange wouldn't be fully exposed to collector part of the manifold

Would this still be ok?

I'd put a dual inlet for the wastegate on the 90* turns up. This will give the wastegate flow priority yielding better control.

I appreciate the input but unfortunately that's just not an option, I literally don't have the room

I'm finally working on this again and need some more input, here's how I cut it

Here are my filler pieces

Does it really make a difference which way this pipe goes (both pics below) or can I just get away with it being at a straight 90 degree? Just wondering because it would make things much easier considering that first piece is the only curved piece that's that size, at least out of what I have found so far

Your gonna have a bunch of problems with keeping boost steady with that setup right there. Your only bleeding off exhaust from 2 of your cyl.

Didn't even see that. So I guess if that's the case, if possable run the one with the curve so it's a little smoother transition to your wg. Otherwise this shit nig nog black and I approve of this :-)

For the best control, it would be placed at the bottom side of your header connection flange.

I'd have put it at the top of the 2 tubes just before the final 90* elbows coming up. The slight backpressure caused by the elbow will force more than enough gasses into the WG tubes. I'd make the tube into a mini collector similar to the turbo collector. You could have then divided both and used a divided HX35 for 10 shades of awesome.

This thing is finally done, the manifold was boxed (unfortunately not with stainless) and then went over again with the tig to smooth the welds out. It's incredibly sturdy so as of now I don't plan on any extra reinforcing to support the manifold.

The last sinktrap I made was exactly the same as your design, except it was WAY further away from the manifold. Like, we had 2-3 feet of pipe off the manifold until it hit the WG. It was fine, I wouldn't worry about it.
