Weird Honda no-start problem FIXED
« on: January 05, 2014, 09:43:48 PM »

SOLVED: If you have shitty looking parts, you should change them even if they seem to be working.

My nogs, I have a 97 Accord, autotragic, a million billion miles on it that will occasionally not start for me.

I have spark.

I have fuel at the rail(pressure at least, I have yet to take a noid light to the injectors)

I have compression. I have ran extra grounds.

The car only seems to act up when it gets warmer out, think around and above 32*F or 0*C if it's really cold it will start no problem and will restart when engine is hot as well.

No CELs.

I can't figure it out. Last week it fucked off on me and the car sat for 4 days until I had it towed to my shop, I had killed the battery cranking it over and when I charged it up it started no problem.

Cliffs: Fuck you, read it and help me think of dumb shit to check.

Edit: Wanted to ad this: When it won't start, it won't even catch and stumble. Also, when it does start I can drive it around and restart it without any issue, as long as it's cold outside.

Spark without injector pulse (accompanied by CEL 16) is a recreational impossibility.

Intermittent FPR sticking open?

O2 sensor won't help a no start, hard for it to detect anything when it won't run.

I just had an accord the other day that wouldn't start. The normal spark tests showed good spark, but it wouldn't run. Put a heat gun on the distributor for a few min and it fired right up. The old cap showed no signs of moisture inside, but a new cap and gasket solved the issue

How much spark? Those coils like to fuck up and give you about half the spark output you need but that usually makes it flood when starting cold. Can you get a data stream to check iat and cts?

New cap and rotor fixed it. The old ones were in rough shape but I had spark so, you know...

Every time I've had an ignitor fail it was a no spark condition.

Good deal. It's funny how the simplest things can catch us overthinking a problem. Happens to me sometimes.

Yeah, it was in shitty shape and should've been changed awhile back but someone told me tuning cars was lucrative so it's not like I have a ton of spare cash lying around :P I figured if I was gonna throw parts at it, at least start with stuff that should be changed anyways.
