Tuning BMW, getting AIDS, halp?

I made a blind basemap through guesstimates and safe approximations like an hour before i fired up my car and have been running it for 2 weeks. Today I wired in my breakout harness and everything and installed my LM-2 (bad ass) and brand Ostrich 2.0 (possible badass). End result is, almost 600$ worth of tuning toys left me at a worse point of driveability then before =(

I have 55# injectors on the m50 6cyl, at idle it holds 900rpm just fine but if I go to below 17 AFR it backfires every couple seconds. If I go above 25 AFR it struggles to idle and dies. It seems to want to idle at fucking 20-21 AFR? Playing with idle timing and shit does not make it happier. Could this be a mechanical timing issue? Car is also sluggish till 3,000rpm and even light throttle gets it 0 vac and the turbo is constantly spooling. Though from idle to redline at PT it pulls evenly no backfires or issues. Light throttle produces occasional backfires regardless of AFR seemingly.

Adding 4* of timing on the advanced cam profile from the tune I was running before makes it feel NOTICEABLY peppier without registering additional spikes on the knock sensor.

The car blew out the ICV "goose neck" first time I went over 20psi, I stuck it back in now I'm thinking over 10psi it starts to push out and the car falls on its face, then I let go of the throttle and its ok, could the 30" of vaccum when I go off throttle be pulling it back in?


Fuck driving around in the rain trying to read a dozen gauges and tune with free software by yourself -_-

I've never seen a vehicle that would idle at 20-21 AFR.  Typically they idle best at stoich, with big injectors sometimes high 13s.

Sounds like luser error.  Sure you have the LM2 set to gasoline?

Yes sir, I have never seen a vehicle hold a steady idle over 17 AFR. This makes me feel like something is fucked which is why I'm AXXIN... The fucking analog outs on both 1 and 2 output from 0 to 5v regardless of how i calibrate or set in lmprog, or if i reset to default... gay shit. And yea, I would not be surprised if all of this fuck tardery is from the reference stoich being incorrect but it is on default settings, I even flashed the firmware with the same result. I did free air cal and it said 20.9% and when I decel from high rpm (fuel off) it reads 20.9% which indicates its properly calibrated? Fucking thing  :P


Ok so I will fuck with the LM2 some more tomorrow and see if I can get some more realistic readings from it, what are the other possibilities for why it is reading off so much? misfires? Doesnt sound like it at least at idle.... when it misfires, shit is loud. Air leaking into the exhuast? Would that cause the AFR to be off consistenly or sporadically? and how big of a leak would it have to be to really fuck with the AFR.

Iirc LM2 factory defults to narrow band on channel one and wide band on channel two where 0v = ~7afr and 5v ~27afr, you will have to look up the exact specs, I am just going on memory.

Is it possible that you have it on narrow band?

i set both analog outputs to the factory 0-1v NB settings
the fucking car idles good at 22afr and cruises fine at 19 afr... cant be true
flashed it again, everything default, no pre WB leaks in the exhuast, reads the same

Sounds like you should redo the free air calibration, and then seek Innovate forums tech support if that doesn't fix you up.  It's what I would do.
