Ehh it kinda worries me that an electrical glitch could cause the valves to not open at all. I like a mechanical link between crank and valve operation. Neat idea though.

I remember seeing a small block chevy retrofitted with electric acuators for valave operation back in the day. If a guy could make it work and be reliable it would kill any camshaft. Burn a new chip for whatever lift & duration at whatever rpm he wanted.

That is a definite plus for this system. Instead of having one switchover point to a more aggressive cam profile you can have a dozen point in between, it's infinitely customizable.

Not even a new chip, you don't even need a throttle plate, valve lift and duration determines your throttle.  Basicly this acts like a tiny cam at idle, moderate cam at part throttle, massive cam when at WOT.  You get ultimate drivability and maximum power

Isn't that what I-vtak is proportional valve timing or lift or whatever as opposed to on and off like old school vtak.   And hasn't one of the big auto makers done something with electronic valve actuation?

Either Ford was supposed to have released this on their productions models years ago. From what I understand one of the main issues they are having is on the closing action, the valves hit the seats too hard.

While this would be a major improvement, I really think tappet valves need to be ditched all together.

I was under the impression that F1 only used pneumatics in assisting the valve to close, and they had limited life spans do to closing too hard, as Dave had touched on.

This tech is 30+ years old. OEMs are fuck holes who have tech WAY beyond what you realize.  They just drag it out and then 10-20 years later "oh look at how great we are with this new technology" bullshit every single time.

You'd think those niggers would just counteract the speed with another solenoid. 2 on each shaft, 1 opens one closes, and each end of movement has some sort of dampening.

I thought about this a long time ago as much of a lie that sounds, it would be amazing if it were perfected though. You'd have lift, timing, duration, and swirl/tumble control, and obviously no TB to deal with since the valves do the work restircing airflow. You could also make the engine fit into incredibly small areas with oddly shaped & unequal length manifolds, since you could map each cylinder and control them indipendantly to compensate.

If you read the site, the boat example is kinda weak. Even with deep-v's, 25mph is rather slow for such an expensive engine.
