Virus/trojan issues
« on: July 11, 2009, 12:27:05 PM »

Well I'm not sure wtf is up with my pc. My younger brother is the one that uses the computer 95% of the time and his dumbass wasn't running any sort of virus/spyware protection. On top of that, I'm sure he watches his fair share of porn and downloads shit like no other.

I have AVG free, Nod32, spybot S&D, Adaware and hijackthis. Out of all of those, hijacthis and spybot won't run. They are both installed, but when I try to open them, they won't run.

Also, when doing searches on Firefox, it will redirect me to some other site instead of the one I'm trying to go to. It's really fucking annoying.

I've tried booting up in Safe Mode and running all those scans and still hijackthis nor spybot work in safe mode.  I run scans every day. I just finished uninstalling firefox, to see if that would fix anything but it didn't.

any help would be appreciated. I don't know wtf to do anymore.

Run Malwarebytes Anti Malware as well as Super Anti-Spyware. I use those two plus spybot and the three of them catch everything. Make sure to do a scan after startup if it asks.

Had the same thing on my old a22m.I  Used CCleaner first then ran some virus scanner off of cnet.. all the common adware software will be blocked. so use something youve never tried before. then run adaware that should clean it out.........you should be able to copy past links in your browser. the search results your seeing are fakes. it's like getting rick rolled.

Super Anti-Spyware won't install. It says it runs into an error and just closes. I installed Malwarebytes Anti Malware, but it won't load just like spybot.

Fucking gay.

Do you have the trial version? I tried to dl prevx via torrents, but couldnt find anything that worked. I dl'd free prevx and it showed me some of the things shit my pc had and I manually deleted what I could but theres still shit on here I'm sure.

The trendmicro scan is about to be done. Hopefully it works.

boot up in safe mode
hit alt/cntrl/del
task manager
stop everything

then try to run the antimalware stuff you have.

Sounds like you picked up a nasty bastard.

What are some of the web sites it sends you to?

won't work. the virus boots with explorer, and disables any install or .exe or website file in it's "dictionary". it's a mean son of a bitch.

Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.

It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.

When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.

Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives
Mail databases
Click on My Computer under Scan.

Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.

You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....

Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.

Ill bet any kind of money you have been rooted. Could try a live cd to see where it is and try to kill it that way.

Fucking gay.
Youve got to find one that the guy who made your virus didn't know about.  try this one Jose  http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?tag=contentBody;mostPopTwoColWrap

Running CCleaner first is key. it'll free up some ram so you can do work before the bullshit starts hogging it all.

Yeah, I haven't given up just yet. It doesn't bug me enough to reformat it right now. I'll keep trying and will let you know what worked, if it even done. It's just super annoying when my searches are redirected and I can't just hit "back".

Avast worked! Fucking about time. It was like a 2 hour scan, but that's because I have 3 different hard drives. there was like 4 different trojans it got rid of. Once it restarted, I tried running spybot again and it finally worked. I'm gonna run that scan right now then run the other software I've downloaded.

Thanks for the help dennis. I'll buy you a beer if I ever meet you.

Wish I had seen this thread earlier but looks like you got the situation handed. Avast is godlike compared to other antiviruses.

To be honest I don't like dealing with this kinda crap, I just reformat since I can slap another pc in place and let that one do its thing, but it is annoying to get this shit.

Yeah, if I had another PC I would have just hooked the hd up and handled it that way. I'm gonna torrent Avast right now so I can get the full version.

No problem man. I used to hang out with this woman who is to computers what Joseph Davis is to cars.  Or what stevemode is to rap. Or what D12crzy is to accords or what Widebody93 is to the incoherant post.
She had kids who used her computer all the time and they'd fill it with viruses weekly. I just sit there and watch her clean it all out while I wasn't staring at her massive boobies.
