old to new (FAIL inside)
« on: July 19, 2009, 03:15:47 PM »

figured id bring the old build over now that the new one is just about complete.  Set-up is a D15b with a big t28, hf mani, 450's, the common starter build lol.

Some Stealthmode lines FTW

And the trustworthy 450s

up her skirt cracked bumper and all

Made 203 hp at 11psi quickest run was a 14.1 at 101mph on street tires, cars def capable of 13's but i cant drive.  Well i decided that i was bored with the set up and wanted to go for more power, and while i was at it why not have her cleaned up.... (body work done by the shop where my dad used to sell cars in NY)

what rust...?

some replacement parts

and sprayed

why not throw in some rear discs while i was at it?

New set-up coming soon gotta get some more pictures over to photobucket... no porn this time maybe a link later but heres the misses

how she sat after the paint job

so we got the "new" z6 nice and blown up

and some vitaras (no pic) and FJ Rods

so I was only planning on going with a bottom end build shooting for 300ish so i bought my 50 trim t3/t4 .60/.63

but i went all out and had the head fitted with a bisi turbo cam, and cam gear, KMS valvetrain, 3angle and a slight port and polish. also went with Chris's TB / ported z6 mani combo, I hope that this turbo can get me into the 400's pretty good, i know it'll be pushing it but we'll see.

Hopefully these will help me at the track as well...

gettin ready for the transplant

for the time being im running a DX rans till i can pull my si trans apart and take the obx back out and swap it over to a "new" one.  But the new clutch is in 6puck sprung ACT.
So after quite a few hickups and headaches during the install she at least fired up...

After that adjusted TPS, ran a new ground for the map, and adjusted timing some she idles decent but a little high, 1000rpm ish.  Gotta make a test pipe and get her tuned, and thats where im at with the new build so far.

nothin wrong with the OBX, trans is grindin 3rd and 4th..

Anyway the horrible update, i made a thread in hybrid about code 22 and decided to try and swap my pressure switch and code went away FTW.  Hit Vtec twice not pushing it maybe reved to 6500-7000 and the code wasnt getting thrown felt like vtec was crossing over and then bam motor starts knocking like crazy.  This didnt sound like a rod knock tho, more like the worst valve tap you ever heard, or a loose bolt getting thrown around.  So i decide it seems like the problem was in the head and swapped to a stock Z6 and its still making some crazy noise... and compression is 150 - 90 - 130 - 150 FUCK.  When i pulled the head there was no scoring on the walls, piston tops looked clean, no chunks in the oil,  and when i had the pan off there was no play to the rod caps or visable damage so im lost.  I dont want to pull shit apart because i had the motor assembled at the machine shop and would rather see if we can work something out, motor has alittle over 500 on it and i havent even got to beat on the shit yet.  I have no more money to throw at the fuckin thing but im to far in to give up so well see how it goes.

Pull the motor and bring it to the machine shop let them take a look at it, but do not say you even touch it!

She looks like a girl from the russian porn I've been looking at. Those iron curtain girls are fucking amazing.

Anyways, it almost sounds like it's a rod/piston issue. It's possible the wrist-pin, rod small end, or wrist-pin hole has a huge defect. Check the old head's valves on that bad cyl (VERY closely). My guess is the piston is contacting the head, which makes very odd noises and also emits the from the head. This is assuming all main/rod bolts are tight, all bearings (inc. thrust) are good, and piston crowns are okay.

Otherwise check the clutch. I've known people with backed-out FW bolts and free'd clutch springs have odd sounds come from their motors.

everything seems to turn over by hand good, and cranking to check compression sounds fine... only when i start it does it make the noise.  The machinist did say he machined the piston tops down a bit because he thought the piston - valve was a little tight.  But with the compression being low now i know something is wrong.  Eh i gotta get some motivation back b4 i give up, i just dont want to pull the motor again, and im just hoping that if i let this guy take a shot at fixing it, that it doesnt fuck up a second time (asuming it was somethin he did).  He's done alot of hondas 5 of which i know personally without any problems, i think this is his first D tho...
